Can Lance Stephenson Save the Pacers Franchise?

Post#1 » by Upthreeone » Thu Apr 6, 2017 2:53 pm

Call it an overreaction, but Lance Stephenson might be crazy enough to not just propel them to the playoffs, but save the entire Pacers franchise.

At 38-40, the Pacers are in no way a lock to make the playoffs. This is made worse by the fact that they appear to be faltering when they need to be stepping it up. After a loss to the Raptors this week marked their third straight in this critical stretch, a sullen Paul George pointed the finger to his own clubhouse, “there’s no urgency, no sense of urgency, no winning pride. This locker room is just not pissed off enough.”

It's a bit of an overreaction, but from what I've heard thus far I think he can save the franchise! He gives PG a certain edge and he brings the best out of him, even PG said this in an interview! The team overall needed an extrovert guy, someone that shows emotions and willingness to compete. Also, they need someone that creates, that does something out of the ordinary! Lance checks all those boxes!
What I now hope is, that he can somehow get GRIII to play with this kind of edge, because I think he (GRIII) has all the intangibles of a legit NBA player. Athleticism, Basketball IQ, Shooting Mechanics and the urge to be a good player

Yes, he will.

Imagine Lance bringing up the ball in a playoff game, Pacers are down 1 and Lance starts doing Lance things.

Wether he will do a Milwaukee 4th quarter 1:40 to go thingy or a Raptors 4th quarter 6:24 to go thingy, it's both entertaining

Entertainment fills seats and that is going to save the Pacers franchise until the roster issues will be fixed.

Lance added some fire and toughness to the team, but against the best opponents that isn't going to be enough.

Every improvement is welcome though and he has already made a huge impact, filling in the gap that Bird has created with Turner as starting center. Turner, who isn't ready to contend for at least 2 more years. At least Paul George now has another talented companion, who is ready to contend.

With Lance on the team, the Pacers will make the playoffs, will fight hard to win the series and with all that has happened during the season, Paul George will be a happier person going into the summer than during the season. I can't think of a better way to save this franchise than to make Paul George a happier person.

The beautiful part about the Lance addition is that Lance isn't that great of a player. PG's happiness about Lance isn't going to last.
So next time Paul will feel frustrated about the team (and Lance), it will not be that difficult for Bird to improve the roster again.
PG happy again, extension one step closer again. If Lance were a great player, but the Pacers wouldn't advance because Paul wasn't mentally tough enough (again) to hit his free throws, it would be more difficult to convince Paul George of staying, because it would be much harder to upgrade the roster.

In other words, Lance his flaws will keep Paul George his flaws under the radar and the Pacers can continue to try to upgrade their roster, while they keep the image of PG as Batman alive, knowing he is actually closer to a Robin.

It might be a bit too soon to say he saved the franchise, but I would definitely say he has saved our season.

I was so upset with the Pacers that I was about ready to start watching Soccer and give up basketball. Then! They signed Lance and the whole thing turned around. He's doing his Lance Dance and the Pacers win 3 in a row looking to make it 4 on Monday playing the Evil Philadelphia 76'ers. We're gonna beat them like a Red Headed Stepchild!

What is wrong with this guy though? I've always loves his game, but does this guy have mental problems or what? He can't seem to chill out. It seems like the NBA environment is too much for him and he gets too excited over stuff and end up doing stupid things.

Like I could see him hit a game tying 3 with 2 seconds left than start break dancing and take out a referee's legs on accident.

I get it when people look at him in a strange way but mental problems, come on?

He was a young player that had a lot of spotlight on him his first time around, go ask a guy like JR Smith how he handled the NBA life when he was young. Lance never had off the court issues and just likes to have (maybe a little bit too much) fun on the court.

Now he is 26 and a lot more mature if you listen to him. If he hits a big shot and dances a little or does faces, he is just the average NBA Player, nearly everyone does it, hell even Marc Gasol did some weird dance after hitting a gamewinner

At least he plays with attitude and energy, exactly what this Pacers team needs, so all good from my part.

I think this is the "weird dance" you're refering to
