SVG #1 priority-defensive minded PF

Post#1 » by Canadafan » Tue Apr 11, 2017 1:51 pm

Milsap or Ibaka would be perfect. Except they'll cost a fortune.
Who's out there to be had in trade?
I like this thinking because another big is needed to kick Andre's ass into playing some defence and trying overall

Drummond's making max money. I don't think anyone besides himself is gonna change his mindset on how he plays. All the motivational garbage with him gets old to me. With Leur supposedly being our defensive mobile PF I don't think we trade for another PF especially with the logjams and Henry being buried already. Let's fix our Pg position first to a pass first defensive kinda guy

So we are already paying Tobias & Leuer a combined $30 mil, yet the #1 priority is another PF?

Did he state this or is this fan speculation?

The #1 priority should be a perimeter player who can create and shoot.

It's op's take-away from SVG's postgame comments. It was the first need he harped on. He also mentioned the need for improved shooting/offensive production.

Can't forget about Ellenson either. Wanting a defensive four is fine. Getting one and making a real rotation without major changes to the current roster? Not happening.

Ibaka looks washed up, Millsap won't come.

#1 priority should be to blow the whole thing up. Can't improve the defense if Dre is the anchor. Can't improve the shooting if you are still starting KCP. Bringing in a better playmaker isn't going to help if the paint is always clogged because Dre sucks and nobody on the team can shoot. Time to start over. The "centerpieces" to this franchise are way, way, way, way too flawed for this to work.

That is certainly not my priority. A stretch 4 that plays terrific defense could be great IF we are keeping Drummond, but how many of those are there? How many are available?
If there was one to be drafted, like Lauri Markkanen (and I don't know anything about his defense), then sure, but he'd still have Leuer/Ellenson/Harris/half of Morris to contend with.

We're probably better suited just rolling with Harris at PF and checking off that box.

Looks like we're really committed on Dre on this one.

The priorities are shooting and a pg. It would be a huge step if we could address this. However, since we're paying around 40 M next year for the 7th worst duo in the national basket association in terms of plus minus, and we're about to max out a SG shooting 33% from 3s, I don't really see how this would be achievable.
We can maybe trade RJ for some GMs dead pet if we include a first rounder, and try to roll with Ish and the Brandon Jennings / Ty Lawson's of the league. Other than that we're stuck

Heard Josh Smith is available.

Oh wait, right defense AND not washed up?

S&T KCP with Jon Boy to Atlanta for Paul Millsap & Tim Hardaway

Dre, Millsap, SJ, Junior, RJ

ATL: Dwight, Jon, Bazemore, KCP, Schroder
Only way to acquire a defensive 4 is via trade anyway since we're capped out

We'd literally be the next Hawks. Except somehow worse spacing since we would continue to double down on RJ & Dre terrible ball instead of motion offense.

SVG whines about defense but brings in players that have huge defensive question marks in most cases. Maybe coach SVG needs to have a talk with GM SVG to get them on the same page...

A defensive minded PF? I got bad news for you, the days of Dale Davis are gone at PF.

You want a unicorn, if you want a PF that is an elite defender and a good perimeter shooter. Draymond Green is really the only one that truly sticks out. Sure, Ibaka and Milsap can do 70% of those things, but they're both too old for where this core is at.

This team's top need is talent. Period. We don't have anyone to even construct a team around. It's a team of flawed role players.

#1 priority would be total destruction and keep only Harris, KCP, Boban, Johnson, Ellenson.

#2 Detroit needs talent to build around it. Make some good trades, SVG can do it.

And I still can't believe how Detroit didn't pursue players like James Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Lance Stephenson, Tim Hardaway Jr.
Hard work pays off. Nothing worth having comes easy.

I always liked Favors, something around Morris for Favors in a sign and trade with Leuer going to a 3rd team?

Andre / Boban / Favors
Favors / Harris / Ellenson
Stanley / Harris

It would take more than Morris to get that deal done. Maybe, sweeten the pot with Morris/RJ for Favors. 8-)
