Hard to deny the guy a max or close to max extension. I wish we can get a reasonable deal done this summer just so teams desperate for talent like Brooklyn don't throw max at every good FA next season.

I like TJ but his mystery injury scares me. He legit dropped off the face of the earth for 30 games this year.

I think one of the most impressive things about him is he NEVER turns it over. Every time I look it is 0. Sure he doesn't assist much but with so many turnovers from everyone else, I think this is important. He handles the ball very well. I bet his avg to was close to .1-.2 per game during that stretch.

Re: The TJ Warren Thread!
Very impressive. As you mentioned, he doesn't assist much but he doesn't hold the ball much either. He is just very efficient with the ball. He either gets rid of it quick or he makes a move. Looking at this season, only 5 players played at least 2000 minutes and recorded less TO's than TJ (57 TO's) and that's MKG, Otto Porter, Ryno, Snell and Andre Roberson.

But if he's worth that then why do it this year? Unless I'm missing something, the whole point of doing it this summer is to lock him in at a somewhat lower pay grade than he might eventually be worth. Otherwise, why not just let him court offers the next year and match whatever he's offered?

That's pretty much it. This is an opportunity for us to be able to sit down with him without a bunch of other teams in his ears (officially) and pulling him this way and that way. This is a chance for us to really sell him on our vision and hopefully get him for less than max. When you initiat first, it gives him the impression that we want him on the team long term. If we get through this off season without an extension and let him court offers, it sends a message to him that we're interested but not interested enough to pay him after 3 seasons. And then letting him go into free agency is risky, especially with Brooklyn out there.

And to leave him without uncertainty and knowing he is a long term part of our future. Those things say a lot to players.

I do not think we have to worry about that injury anymore.
Speculation began as to how severe the injury was, when it occurred and so on. Warren himself couldn’t elaborate on the injury this Tuesday after practice but assured that everything is resolved.

Re: The TJ Warren Thread!
To me there's never been a question that TJ could be an NBA scorer and do it with efficiency. The question has always been can he do enough outside of scoring to be a real NBA starter. That's why his increase in rebounding and steals is so encouraging if he can keep it up in that area I think he can be a legit 3 or 4th type option on a good team. Now I don't think that should prevent the suns from taking a guy like Jackson if he's the best player on the board. Sure both him and Warren are technically 3's but they are very different players and I don't see any reason they can't fit together. You need multiple versatile forwards in todays NBA so let's stockpile them.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

The question is TJ Warren a $22M man this summer or a $24M man next summer? That would probably be the max salary he could be offered.

Jesus. I'm still not adjusted to this new cap reality I guess. I was thinking around $15m.

Should we be paying TJ Warren 25% of our cap? Is he one of our "three stars" for a championship run? I don't think so. He is a great starter level/depth level player. Its with players like TJ that most teams get themselves into cap hell.
TJ might be one of the players on this roster most likely to be traded this summer. He is a young player with promise. He has good trade value. For a team looking for a package of players for a star, or for more of a sure thing than a pick, TJ would be a good option. If the Suns draft Jackson, he should be traded.

Why trade Warren if we draft Jackson? What exactly do you expect to get in return? Why would any team ask for him over Jackson if its a star trade?

I seriously doubt he will get very close to $20 million.

Re: The TJ Warren Thread!
Pre-injury Warren was very impressive and would not hesitate to offer 15 Million plus a year.
The post injury and the recent Warren... he has regressed his defensive efforts... maybe because the team sucks and everyone pretty much bailed defense anyways but... the most recent Warren is still good, but I would see what other teams would offer him.

Just to be clear I was pointing out what it would cost the Suns to pay TJ max. I think we should try to extend him this summer for less than max if he will take it. How much should we offer him ... way more than Len for sure. I think Warren is much like the Joe Johnson we got from Boston. I would hate to see us move TJ and then have him explode onto the NBA scene next year.
