Why did the Cavs cut Liggins?

Post#1 » by jbk1234 » Mon Apr 10, 2017 5:34 pm

As someone who wanted to see Liggins get some of Shump's minutes, I was really disappointed the Cavs released him.

Anyone know why that happened? Was there a locker room issue?

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Inconsistent who would look confused on the court during certain times.
The scariest question in NBA history.

We're dumb?

For months the only playing time he has got is as pointguard in garbage time, which isnt his roll. He and th team were really good when he was getting significant minutes and he played along side ky and bron.

The team's primary goal seems to have been to get the primary rotation back on the tracks, and Liggins wasn't part of it. I thought he showed promise as a guy we could bring in to slow down a player on the other team, but Lue seems only focused on spreading the floor then spreading the floor more. Derrick Williams is another guy who contributed while JR and Kevin were out, but couldn't get non-garbage minutes once they returned. Shump hasn't been playing well recently, and it'll be interesting to see what Lue does do.

The simple answer is that with a full squad, there are going to be 6 or 7 guys either in street clothes or planted on the bench and Griff decided to bring back Dahntay Jones for the contribution he could make from the bench.

But Liggins was signed for more than just this season and it's possible like Larry Sanders he wore out his welcome in a way we're just not privy?

Or... interestingly the Mavs picked up his contract and apparently saved us $2.5M in luxury taxes. So, there may have been some more back room dealing between Cuban and Gilbert.
