The Official GM Search Thread

I'm sure there will be lots of different views on this but my top two picks would be Sam Hinkie or Mike Zarren

A compilation of all the names thrown out so far include:
- Travis Schlenk (Assistant GM of the Golden State Warriors)
- Pat Garrity (Associate GM of the Detroit Pistons)
- Brian Wright (Assistant GM of San Antonio Spurs)
- Matt Lloyd (Interim GM of the Orlando Magic)
- Mitch Kupchak (Former GM of the LA Lakers)
- Doc Rivers (PBO and head coach of LA Clippers)
- Grant Hill (Minority owner and Vice Chairman of the Atlanta Hawks, who has already denied interest)

Of course in typical DeVos family fashion, all except one of those names have previous ties to the Orlando Magic.

No GM is perfect. Some GMs are great for stepping into a contending team and getting them over the top. Others are great at the tank game and helping to pull a team out of the gutter. It's clear which we need.

I want a guy who has shown the ability to do well in the draft and maximize small trades.

Don't tell me that one guy is great because he got Kevin Durant to go to GS or this guy is better because he got Cleveland their first title. BS. The players already on those teams did that. The GM was along for the ride and made the small moves necessary to facilitate it. We don't have the star power for any GM to do such things.

We need someone who can find us a star. That is most likely to happen in the draft. Find us a GM with a great scouting resume and great respect around the league who can make deals happen.

I expect a few serious candidates to emerge by the end of the month, followed by some meetings at the cult leader's house, then a new hire first week of May.

Hinkie would be great for a rebuild. Others would disagree, but we need to maximize assets and stop taking shortcuts.

magic should hire Basketball Operations guy 1st then let him & Vogel find a GM.. Martins can continue selling tickets and OMYF stuff but that's it.

WTF Grant Hill?! You owe us after collecting $93 mill, while only playing 2.5 out of 7 years.

In typical Devos fashion, we probably end up with Pat Garrity as GM. Doesn't matter who the next GM is though, nothing will improve until Devos & Martins are gone.

Everyone but Rivers. His first move would be trade for his son.

Can't really blame him. He got deal when he was older and he had like 4 ankle surgeries? After Magic he was shell of former self and way passed his prime.

Anyway he already said that he has no interest.

I'm fairly certain he spoke after the fact about his desire to re-sign and stay with Orlando on a cheap contract, but that the organization had no interest in keeping him around.

Grant Hill is a high character individual.

Can u blame Devos from
Hiring people they know ? I mean rob was an outside hire and look at the results he got ! It's hard to argue with Devos when his previous hires from within have gotten to the finals twice , signed Tracy McGrady , grant hill and almost had Duncan as well ! The one time they hire from outside their normal circle the franchise has its worst 5 year period and their is still no end in sight ! Rob hennigan has managed to turn our assetts into nothing ! Lol

We have plenty of assets right here. Tobias Harris is not good and Victor is overrated. A new GM could get great value out of guys like Vuc/Evan/EP...etc. There is no evidence that we could have gotten much for T12 besides asking for a future first. The rest is message board nerd guesswork. The only leaked trade that Rob could be criticized for is not getting Boogie, but we would not have a first round pick right now.

Tobias is better than any small forward we have right now , we literally traded him for nothing but cap space that we used on Jeff green ! And a future first is something I would be fine with but instead rob got nothing ! Even if u think dipo is overrated , rob loss that trade !!! I don't care that dipo was traded but the fact that he was traded for someone who isn't on our roster and wasn't for a position of need (AG is our PF) is another loss ! Then on top of trading for Ibaka , he grossly overpays biz ,when we already had a center and traded for Ibaka who could also play center ! And this isn't hindsight 20/20 , from the moment these moves were made people were questioning what the magic were doing ! What's done is done and hopefully the next guy who is our gm only make trades that the. Magic win !

So what? Tobias is bad and gets 16 million a year. I don't understand why you would complain about Bizmack yet want Tobias back.

Reality is that no one knows the other options that were available for those players. They could have been bad. What we do know is those players are not that great for what other teams are paying them, so it's not worth complaining about.

Who is the cult leader?
I dont care who they hire or if they have "previous ties" to the Magic as long as they're qualified to do the job.

John Weisbrod, no question about it! After him maybe Hinkie. But who is that guy named Grant Hill?
