So we'll have $5 mil in cap space?
That's barely the signing of our 1st round pick!!

Welcome to the disaster of this front office' choices. Welcome to the treadmill. Welcome to ... oh never mind. I think we all knew how bad it would be, but it's still depressing.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

The core is still young, it's not as if we have an aging DRose or Joakim Noah. It's a little intimidating to be locked into the guys we have, but I don't think it's all bad. A solid draft choice and a trade could get us right where we need to be.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Can't blame Cho for any of this. It's MJ's fault. Fred Whitfield's too.

Kemba wants Blake Griffin. I have to wonder if he knows our crappy cap situation.

The situation isn't nearly as dire as many of you make it out to be.
You're talking about a lineup that has one of the best net ratings for two years running.
Too much negativity

Cho will have to get creative, at this point we can't afford to upgrade the bench.

Re: Hornets Cap Outlook
It really depends on HOW the bench gets upgraded. Signing some young guys with potential and having an energetic & athletic bench seems doable to me. Cliff would hate that though. He wants vets who aren't going to make as many mistakes. That's going to be more difficult.
Cho is going to have the draft picks and both exceptions but no real cap room to work with. Given this & his contract situation, I'm expecting a trade or two.

So we have 5m cap space? Does that include sessions or no?

The MLE won't get you much of a rotational quality player in this landscape. The draft will be huge and we may bemaking some trades.

Re: Hornets Cap Outlook
I really think the MLE can net someone solid because so many teams are over the cap this time around.
The big names will swallow up the remaining cap space and there will be some legit talent floating around.

Exactly. We may capped out, but it is with young players who still have upside and nba skillsets. Maybe not much, but that makes them tradeable. Being on the tread mill implies that the team doesn't have many moves available. We actually are in a pretty good position. Let me throw some options out there for you guys you may not have thought about. Blake wants out of LA. Clippers most certainly don't want to loose him for nothing. The same is likely with JJ. So...
Nic/Frank /future lotto protected
for
Blake/JJ
Clips get a solid vet, a young player with potential, and a pick. If Blake and JJ resign we have our team to compete w/ Toronto, Boston, and Cleveland. If they don't resign we now have our cap space to make a run at Haywood.
Same with Melo. The Knicks want him gone. Mike wants him in Charlotte. They probably already have an under the table Jordan Brand deal if he gets here.
MKG/Nick/11/future 1st
Melo/Porzi
Knicks get value for Melo
Charlotte gets a superstar and a young stud. These trades might not happen, but they are to show you that when you have quality young players, picks, and skilled vets you have options.

I seriously doubt that Mike ordered Cho to trade for an over payed Dukie.

I think we will do some type of trade first. Cho likely will want to upgrade the team in some way, and then save the exceptions to see who is available after the free agent frenzy dies down.

Re: Hornets Cap Outlook
^ Neither of those trades even remotely make sense. New York would be dealing Melo to hand the keys to the franchise over to Porzingis. A more likely scenario is Plumlee, expirings, 11 for Melo, which I'm not crazy about, but wouldn't hate. The Clippers trade doesn't make sense either because both Blake and Redick are free agents, both would have to agree to come here, and for that to work financially, Redick would have to accept a contract less than $5M (assuming a Blake max is upwards of $30M)
investigate Adam Silver

Re: Hornets Cap Outlook
I'm assuming this kills our ability to offer anyone the full MLE and also stay under the tax, right?
