I wish we could trade our pick plus Dunn for Middleton. But i just don't see why Bucks do it. Midds is such a fit here and he's so damn good and has a sweet contract. For the record. I'll take Midds over Butler (fit) and George (contract).

I believe that the price Thibs asked for Rubio.

Probably the Bucks arent trading Middleton for any less than an all start under control. He is pretty damn good. Parker is who they would want to trade, for the right price. Bad thing he is injured because his value is very low. But they dont need him with Maker and Giannis, who are much better defensive players.

I think it was Newton who had discussion with Milwaukee about Rubio, not Thibs.

Ooops.
Would you trade top 6 pick, Dunn and Aldrich for Batum?

Is that a joke? Definitely not. A 28 year old who shoots 40% FG, 33% 3PT and is getting $22M next year? I'll pass

Probably not much.
Aldrich may only have neutral value, and Jordan Hill is $4 mil, non-guaranteed, so he would be like "trading" part of our cap space.

Re: Trade Ideas thread
Completely crazy-insane-virtually-impossible pipe dream idea (that's not even original) but I'm curious, would this affect our ability to sign Towns/Wiggins to max contracts?
Part 1
The standard trade for Jimmy Butler.
MN 1st, Dunn, Lavine or whatever combo of people assets it would take
Part 2
Convince Blake Griffin to sign.
Rubio
Wiggins
Butler
Griffin
Towns
That's instantly a guaranteed top-3 team (assuming BG stays healthy), right? I'm not going to pretend like I understand that cap at all. I'm assuming that many max players would not be allowed in the CBA or we'd be way too far in the lux tax once we filled out the roster, but I was just reading about Griffin and I hadn't thought about combining him with Butler on the Wolves yet and I got a little excited.

Don't want Blake in this team. Aside of injuries and lack of grind and grit I'm not big fan of BG after stupid scandal.

Re: Trade Ideas thread
With point guards at four of the top 6-7 draft prospects (Fultz, Ball, Smith, Fox), it is quite likely that a PG will be the Best Player Available when it's our turn to select. In fact, there is only a 4.5% chance that we pick 8 or 9. So here are our big questions.
1. I assume everyone takes Fultz if we get the top pick (5.3%). However, do you still choose BPA for every spot, or would you be okay taking a better fit for some of the other guys?
2. If we draft a PG, do we trade Rubio, Dunn or Tyus, or trade the pick?
We are aiming for the playoffs next year, and it takes rookie PG's a few years to learn the position, but the minutes have to come from somewhere.
What's your plan?

What's the teams plan for next year because that changes what you do.
If it is to try and make the playoffs as a priority you trade Tyus because Rubio has to start until outplayed by the rookie and Dunn can exist with either and be the third PG in an emergency.
If it is to put development not winning first you trade Rubio play the rookie a lot and keep Tyus and Dunn

I think it's pretty tough to get 3 PG's consistent playing time. Maybe if the PG you draft can also play SG(Fultz, Nkilitina, Ball?) you could keep Rubio, Dunn and the pick but even that seems to be a stretch.

1. I take the player with the highest ceiling regardless of position. Which i believe is not always BPA It could have higher bust potential. Sometimes you end up with Giannis, other times you end up with Ndubi Ebi. But with the assumption, the team is going to fill some holes through FA, I think Timberwolves are in a position to try and hit the 'lottery' in hopefully the last time they are in the lottery for 10 years. With Towns, Wiggins, Lavine, etc. I think the Wolves can handle a bust without much impact to future.
2. Depends on the PG...but generally I am keeping Rubio regardless at least to the trade deadline. My goal is playoffs, and I think he gives us the best chance until any of the rookies(or Dunn) get up to speed. I think you also have to strongly consider trade, there are teams like the Lakers...who perhaps want a Lonzo Ball as bad as his dad wants the Lakers. Or maybe the magic, who could be decent trade partners...likely want PG, and have 4 picks in the top 40 or so. Perhaps move down a couple slots and pick up a couple more shots at a stud(see number 1 above) or take advantage of the 2 extra roster spots with couple high 2nd round talents.

Re: Trade Ideas thread
So this is what I got so far:
Win Pick 1: Draft Fultz.
A. Trade Tyus for late 1st, 2 seconds, or use as a bonus in a larger trade.
B. Keep Dunn to see if he can regain value off the bench - at a minimum he's a defensive specialist that compliments LaVine.
C. Keep Rubio to start and check again on Fultz-Dunn progress at trade deadline. However, if MIN can get the value of a late 1st (DAL, CHI plus), trade Rubio to get that value to bring in a good vet at another position, and sign a short-term vet PG to be a placeholder for Fultz. The market for PG's will fall as it becomes flooded.
Win Pick 2: Draft Ball and Trade him for help at another position. Keep Rubio, Dunn, Tyus
FWIW, Chad Ford lists three lottery teams that could pick Ball even over Fultz! LAL, NYK and PHX are teams that can use a new star, so we could get max trade value. If any of those teams get the #3, I'd trade them Ball for #3 and a future, Top-8 protected 1st. To have leverage, you need to have deals in place with all three, or they dare you to pick Ball at #2. If they don't get the #3 ...
A. Lakers - Ingram plus.
B. Knicks - Porzingas for Ball + Tyus
Ball has two big advantages over their stars. First, he is enough of a show, that losing their current star could be accepted by ticket-buying fans. Second, Ball is starting his first year of rookie scale. Porzingas for example, will be starting year 3, and may want out.
C. Suns - ummmm?? They better have the #4 and assets? They might have to move Bledsoe (maybe in a three-teamer?) to make room
Win Pick #3: Hopefully that means Josh Jackson, and no PG problems
Get Pick #6-#7: Avoid the PG's, and choose someone who fits better. Right now (late April), i think there are several comparable players in the 4-7 tier. I still like the idea of drafting for upside (and I like Fox and Smith for that), but I think their chances of becoming stars is lower.
I would also strongly consider trading this pick for a younger, win-now starter.

This summer I just want to see that there is a will to change mentality to the environment and to the team with choices that make me understand that you want to grow and not to stay the usual wolves...
With nice sign in FA...nice trade...
Or at least be in negotiations for strong players...not aldrich hill and co...

I come in peace as a Cs fan.
The Celtics are overloaded in the backcourt and will possibly have to move either Bradley or Smart this off-season. (They have Thomas, Brown and Rozier, plus a decent shot at Fultz or Ball in the draft.) It seems like both would have value to the Wolves. Especially Bradley: Killer D, intangibles off the chart, a very good 3 point shooter who does not need to handle the ball much, and only 26 years old with 7 years NBA experience. Someone who can complement your stars and provide leadership.
Ainge and Thibs are close, and I suspect Thibs is dying for a player like Bradley (or Smart, for that matter). The Wolves have their superstars, what they need now are first-rate complementary parts, all-NBA defenders and veteran leadership. Keep an eye on this. Not sure what the Wolves could/would offer in return, but I would not be surprised if negotiations occur.
PS-- I suspect Danny woudl be less likely to trade Smart, even though to fans outside of Boston he probably seems of less value than Bradley. People who watch Smart regularly tend to have an extremely high opinion of him. That includes Brad Stevens.

My understanding says Bradley (and Smart) and primarily SGs which is the last position the Wolves need help at with Wiggins, LaVine, and probably now Dunn all looking like better players at the 2.
If you have a good 3/4 we can use then there could be some discussion. Crowder perhaps? Not sure how the values balance out but that might be closer for what the Wolves needs are.

The problem with Bradley is Wiggins would still defending guys 30 lbs heavier. One shoulder bump in the chest and an easy basket. We cant allow that next season if we want to be in the playoffs. We also have a second version of Smart in Dunn.
