I liked Prince coming into the draft - good bloodlines, solid game - perfect for a big 3&D with a little more type that is so useful in the NBA. But what they have done with Hardaway is the most impressive of the bunch. Bazemore was already developing a bit the year before they signed him (and before the re-signed him).

Hardaway looked like a ball-hog chucker with little else going for him. He's become a solid defender and while still more streaky than ideal, is a nice complementary wing - a legit NBA starter. If we could have done for Snell what Atlanta did for Hardaway (granted, different strengths/weaknesses)... the Bulls would be in a much better place right now.

On a different note, props to Dwayne Casey for copying Brad Stevens and going small, completely messing with the Bucks rhythm.

That is one weakness of Giannis - since he's really a long 3 playing the 4, you can counter his abilities to a great extent by just matching up another larger 3 on him - a la Carroll. And when they are playing Maker at the 5, Ibaka is a perfect matchup.

That makes thing more of a talent matchup between Lowry, DeRozan and now Powell (with some Joseph and Delon Wright and PJ Tucker - who I still really like as a talent and would target down the line) vs. a not 100% Middleton, rookie Brogdon, Snelly-cat and Dellavadova.

Speaking of which, maybe Hoiberg should see how going small to counter Stevens starting of Green (insert Zipser for Niko, have Jimmy guard Green, Zipser on Crowder) would work out. Still would have the size advantage with Lopez, and going small might counter some of the weaknesses that Lopez has in terms of moving in space. (Although you know who would really help here.... Taj....)

Norman Powell. Another 2nd rounder. 46th player taken. Athletic freak with 42 inch vertical. Led the Raptors with 25 pts last night in their big win. It seems like in recent years with more Euros entering the draft and so many one and doners, 2nd round picks have become more valuable than ever. The odds of getting a Jokic, or an IT or even a guy with high high upside who's starting to show it, Powell and so many others we see in the league.

They're useful. It's silly that we gave one away in the Taj trade. I posted elsewhere, when you look at the true standout players in the NBA -- the franchise guys, or near-franchise guys -- of course there are a lot of top 5 picks. But after that, it falls off, particularly when you get into the teens. The middle to lower part of the first round doesn't yield many more standouts than does the second round. Yeah, you're likelier to get a useful rotation player if you draft #19 than #38, but in terms of getting a true difference maker, those picks are pretty close.

It really was. Personally that was probably the biggest letdown of the trade.

I mean, you gave up the 2 best players in the deal and then you also gave up the pick? :crazy:

Taj and Doug haven't had stellar campaigns in OKC, but they've logged a hell of a lot more production than our trio of NBDL reserves. I suppose Lauvergne has been half-decent as a 5th big, but I hesitate even saying that.

And if anything, since the trade -- Lauvergne actually exceeded expectations, whereas Taj and Doug have fallen short of expectations. So I'm just really failing to see how Gar could've negotiated such a poor deal. Couldn't he sell OKC on getting a fantastic, hard-working starting PF along with a sharp-shooter waiting to break out in the right system? Why'd he get duped with dance-boy?

Yeah, I think the Spurs were taken to 7 games a couple times in early rounds in years they won the title. People just cannot wait to count the Spurs out. Maybe they lose in this 1st round, or next, but I wouldn't count them out until they lose 4 games in a series.

The Sacramento pick is the 35th pick this year. Hopefully they don't waste it on the next Cameron Bairstow.

Side note. is Joe Ingles a free agent this summer?

Edit: Looks like he is. Bulls should go after him. Not sure how much it would cost to pry him away from Utah.

I think with the expanded roster spots starting next season with the new CBA we'll start to see these picks being traded less and less. Has the D (or G) League grows, the value of stashing and developing these players in your own system will grow. Right now I think it's just too difficult for a team with championship aspirations (whether meeting those goals or not is a different story) to use roster spots on 2nd rounders.

Ain't gonna lie, they've had me fooled. But I've also never taken the Raptors seriously (still don't).

Giannis is the real deal, however.

Teams that have the single best player usually win playoff series, but not always. The Bucks might be one of those exceptions.
