I get that everyone wants to think their team won the Super Bowl on draft day, and 99% of fans think they did every friggn' year. But my first & second-round picks have been better than the 49ers' picks since I've been following the draft (when I disagreed with the picks), so I'm not falling for the "they do this for a living" line. Lots of people got jobs in the NFL who sucked out loud; Lynch looks like one of them.

So sorry to rain on the optimism parade, but he f***ed up.

I can say the same thing and I really really wanted Thomas. He is a beast. He is going to be the leader of the defense for a decade. He should get to wear number 97 cause that is who he is.

But, I am resigned to feel like we are going to be a bottom tier team next season. If we draft in the top 10 again I will not be surprised. But, with the 2nds and 3rds we picked up this draft we can easily move up and get that QB of the future. Or stay pat and get the QB of the future. There are going to be 5 first round franchise changing QBs next draft. In the past 3 drafts there has only been one QB I really fell in love with and wanted to draft badly. And he was taken in the 3rd rd last year by the Cowboys. I see 4 QBs that are as good if not better than Preskott next year. I like the way the positioned themselves in the draft this year to get that QB.

Obviously.

That's sickening. Too high of an investment to try to do that with a developmental backup.

I'll give Shanahan the benefit of the doubt when it comes to QB. So I'm fine with the Beathard pick for now and the trade up didn't particularly bother me as it's basically a loss of a 7th round pick and they had more than enough picks to work with this year anyways.

I am glad to see how they set themselves up for next year as they have a 1st, 2 2nds, and 2 3rds so they actually have some quality draft capital to work with.

Well so far virtually every analyst in the world disagrees with you Sick. Item of about team Bias I was pissed most years watching Baalke draft... So far the Niners Got 2 potential all pro caliber players, a player who can make an immediate impact at corner... and the future Wal-Mart greeter of the year. An extra 2nd and 3rd next year which could be ammo to move up for the franchise Qb.

The Niners are going to be a bad team this coming year regardless of who they draft this year. The Niners have huge glaring holes at almost every position. If you thought launch and Shanny would come in and have the Niners contenders next year your out of it. I expect the Niners to have a top 10 pick next year realistically seeing 4-6 wins.. It took time make the Niners suck take a couple to bring them back.

C.J. Beathard - QB - 49ers

49ers traded up with the Vikings to select Iowa QB C.J. Beathard with the No. 104 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

The 49ers entered this draft looking for their quarterback of the future, and this pick is not going to change that. Beathard (6’2/219) made 28 starts in the Hawkeyes’ pro-style, play-action offense, compiling a 21-7 record but completing just 58.1% of his passes with a 7.0 yards-per-attempt average and 40:19 TD-to-INT ratio. He slumped to 56.5% completions and 6.4 YPA as a senior. The nephew of longtime GM Bobby Beathard, C.J. projects as a career backup with inconsistent touch, poor pocket presence, and molasses-slow mechanics which led to 58 sacks over his final two years. His ceiling is likely in the T.J. Yates range.

Most of the contact with Beathard and the QBs this year came from Rich Scangarello (QB coach), according to Shanahan. He just watched the tape on him. Only workout Shanahan conducted was with Trubisky. For historical reference.

The similarities between Barkley and Beathard help distinguish and solidify in my mind some of the things that Shanahan did in Atlanta just because of what he had to work with and what he actually likes to do himself when given a chance to build something IMO. That's a little bit of a projection obviously but it's a little concerning at the same time because I think there are some sound parallels there one can make if you've watched a lot of those two guys.

I didn't devote much time watching the lesser-known players this year, but the following players would make the last 2 days' disaster a tiny fraction less sucktastic:

Bucky Hodges, Carl Lawson, Tyler Orlosky, Elijah Hood, Nick Chubb, Malachi Dupree (despite being the worst blocker I've ever seen & having bad hands), Devonte Fields...

And Chad Kelly. Yep; Chad Kelly. Might as well throw some hail marys at this point.

Chubs didn't not declare for this year's draft. Hopefully he does in 2018.

I still want to see where a bunch of the CBs go - Corn Elder, Tony Bridges, Nate Hairston, I wouldn't mind going back in for another one.

RBs - Perine is still there. Gallman is intriguing but I could pass. De'Angelo Henderson, Lenard Tillery, and Taquan Mizzell are small pieces that would be intriguing.

I like quite a few late round WR projects - Coley, Staples, WHitfield, Karel Hamilton, Mack Hollins, Bug Howard, etc.

Bucky Hodges. Couple of TE sleepers are still there - Michael Roberts and Antony Auclair.

Couple of OL still there - Isaac Asiata, Dorian Johnson, Zach Banner, Julie'n Davenport, Ethan Cooper

Obviously I've been saying I'd take a chance on Carl Lawson but I think the medical fears are probably legit on him now that he's still there. Grover Stewart and Roderick Henderson are two other DL that haven't gotten a lot of pub that would be worth it. An edge hybrid in Samson Ebukam would be another interesting project.

Javancy Jones is still there.

Eddie Jackson is still there. Highly interested to see where he goes. Lorenzo Jerome is another guy that's still there but he might not be a great fit for Lynch.

I could ramble for 20 more minutes if you let me.

In terms of pure "need" a team couldn't have handled this draft any better than the Dallas Cowboys IMO.

They are a true SB contender now. But to officially stamp that label on them this is what I would want them to address going into today:

TE: Bucky Hodges, or Jake Butt, AND pick up Barnidge who just got cut.
WR: Dede Westbrook, K.D. Cannnon.
MLB: Maybin-Reeves
OLB/DE: Carl Lawson
RB: Jamal Williams

UDFA signees Donnel Pumphrey, A QB

Curious to see where Dede Westbrook goes, if at all. Bit of a headcase and not the easiest guy to root for. There's about 20 WR UDFA types I could get behind this year.

There are a couple of massive DL still there but aren't great fits for the 49ers anymore - sadly.

Like I said, I could go on and on and on and on and on....

A team should draft him to make him be a backup. Use him solely in your sub packages, bring him in strictly as a pass rusher. Pittsburgh, Bears, Falcons, Raiders, Redskins, and Dallas would be awesome fits IMO.

I don't like that guy. He just comes off as being a jerk. Like Teez Tabor. I think both players can play though and excel in the right system. It would have to be a perfect environment though scheme wise.

I think both Dede would bring a different dimension to the Cowboys offense that'll make like that much easier for Whitten, Zeek, Dez, and of course Dak. He can literally blow the top of your defense, and if you give him too much cushion he'll eat you alive with his RAC ability.

Dorian Johnson reportedly has a liver issue that came up at the medical re-checks. Possible (sole?) reason for his slide.

These openings every single day are an absolute utter joke. A bleeping pep rally.
