Wow if that stands, what a great base running play by Utley.

Pretty Impressive Collection of Southpaw Starters

Post#123 » by Ranma » Fri Apr 28, 2017 6:45 am

Quake Griffin wrote:Is there any reason to demote Wood to the bullpen at this point btw given how poorly Kenta Maeda is showing?

His velo is back and last night, he looked like the talented 2nd round pick turned starter that he was in Atlanta.
He earned the 7th last night even though it wasn't given to him and he earned another start imo.

edit:
Manager Dave Roberts said after the loss that a pitch count was in place, which Wood was unaware of, but understanding, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“I didn’t know I was on a pitch count until I got yanked,” Wood said. “That was probably the longest I’d gone since my last spring start so I wasn’t surprised.”

what was it Dave? 77? 80?

I agree with you. I know it's early, but Wood and McCarthy deserve some slack in the leash to continue on as the starters. However, I suspect Maeda and Ryu will continue to be given chances to work things out. To be fair, both have shown improvements in peripheral stuff even if the results have been lacking.

I don't necessarily disagree with what Dave did with Wood in pulling him early to safeguard his confidence from a collapse. Wood would consistently pitch well through the first couple of times in the order only to give up a big hit and falter the third time around. The mental deflation from those letdowns would be just as detrimental as his bad mechanics with both factors making each other worse. For now, I'm fine with Wood and Urias being handled with kid gloves with the aim to make them stronger and more prepared for later on in the season and hopefully posteason.

Once Hill is healthy, our rotation could be pretty darn good with Kershaw, Hill, McCarthy, Wood, and Urias despite it almost being all lefties.

Way to fight it Kenta.

Gets through 7 innings of 2 ER ball.

Maeda's New Pitch

I knew Kenta had been working on incorporating more of his repertoire of pitches and balancing their respective usage in games, but dang, I didn't now he would just come up with a new pitch, which he apparently starting trying in the Colorado game. His location looked much better last night from the highlight videos but I didn't notice the movement. Quite impressive.

Gotta put Barnes in motion here.

Stay out of the double play.

Missed This Magical Game

Post#129 » by Ranma » Sun Apr 30, 2017 5:26 am

I was actually looking forward to today's game only to receive a last-minute call to attend a birthday dinner from my friend, who happens to be a Giants fan. Maybe he knew. :banghead:

I said the same thing about Chase that I will for Pedro Baez.

We, as a franchise, can do better than both players.

Ken Gurnick@kengurnick
Roberts said Bellinger's two-homer game doesn't change the fact that his stay is expected to be short once Pederson returns.

Ryu hitting the 10 day DL for a hip.

Annoying. He's been delivering on Neddy's promises and was fantastic yesterday. Hopefully it's just a small flare up.

When is the last time Kershaw gave up 4 runs to the Giants?

Could be pure cluster luck but I don't care. Every night Cody is contributing and making it harder and harder to send him back down.

Dave still unsure about whether we are sending him back.

Let the kid play.
If it's cluster luck, then send him back. Big deal. If he's just good, we win.

Grant Dayton gives it up.
Down 4-1.

Does not matter how much those guys up north suck, we freeze up playing them.

Can we win the seasons series FFS. Sheesh.
