Banvit made it to the semi-finals after a crazy ending of the game, BBallBreakdown made a summary.
Korkmaz made a clutch three and showed some of his decent vision and passing skills, his deficiencies on the defensive end are also apparent in the video.

Here we go
Furkan Korkmaz of BK Banvit is the best young player in the first edition of the Basketball Champions League!
The 1997 Turkish player moved to Banvit from Efes in December, in 9 BCL games he had 11.1ppg with 4.3rpg and 2.1apg for 24.3mins, with the decisive basket in the semifinal game against Monaco.

I met him in person. He's rail thin. Sauce seems much bigger than him. Seems like one of those guys that can only get some size and strength with age.
He's like sauce. Underrated leaper and shooter but you know you can't trust much of those in NBA setting.
Nevertheless, great pick and I hope nothing but the best with him.

Wait is the Champions league trying to be the new Euroleague then?
I never understood how the Euroleague worked tbh. Something about licenses? Seems kind of dumb
They should make it like soccer where the champions of each league play each other
Not sure how the Champions League and Euroleague can co-exist though

Basically, FIBA tried to take over euroleague and euroleague said no. So now they're running their own tournament (champ's league) but without the big name/big money teams (who are staying in a new, smaller version of euroleague). There's some bad things about that but it also means that some new teams can get some recognition and glory (instead of the Spanish or Athenian teams or CSKA or Maccabi winning again).

Man, I know the NBA had that whole scandal with Tim Donaghy, but European basketball seems awfully shady sometimes

I was noticing later on this year how much bigger sauce looked. He must be dumping his hot sauce on a bunch of chicken throughout the day. For anyone in the know, what can Korkmaz bring to the Sixers that Nik doesn't? Does he have more defensive potential to be a 3&D type guy?

Not likely to be a 3&D. Unless the D in 3&D means dunk.

Well I think the main thing he brings is that he's locked into a rookie contract his first 4 years while Stauskas is expiring next year. As the bigger names on the roster come off their rookie deals and become expensive, it would be nice to have bargains to balance that out.
He seems to have good potential as a scorer and is still young, but I wouldn't expect a serious upgrade over what Stauskas brings.

I wouldn't expect too much either based on his videos, but the hope would be that he would be an efficient shooter/scorer, which Stauskas has never actually been. This year is Stauskas' first year getting around league average from 3, and basically everyone expected him to be shooting 40%+ right from the jump. Nik also shot 26% from 15ft to the 3pt line, just hasn't been the deadeye guy most thought he'd be. If Korkmaz can hit open spot-ups, drill 3 as the defense closes out, and drive effectively when they overplay, that's a player we could make good use of.

Nik seems like a guy that's taken a bit of time to adjust to each level of ball he's played. I remember watching an interview with him, but he seems confident in improving a little each year, and he certainly has. Once we have a superior squad on the floor with him this coming year I have to imagine he will be shooting even more efficiently. That's why some people that are all-aboard JJ Redick in the clippers thread is a bit odd to me. I feel like Nik is exactly that and a much younger piece we can still build with. I'd rather get a different vet with some defensive skills on ball at the guard position.

I want sauce to succeed more than anyone but he's done nothing to suggest he'll be able to play a high-level Redick role anytime soon. Redick did significantly more with fewer touches basically right away--scored more per minute and more efficiently, produced decent assist #s and never turned the ball over, never ball stopped.
Not saying I'm in favor of us signing Redick (he's old af), but Nik is a poor man's version of Redick at best and at this point he's barely playable for a decent team. I'm fine with hoping he improves and not signing an aging and expensive rich man's version of him, but I'm skeptical Nik will ever be a high-level rotation shooter.

Re: Welcome Furkan Korkmaz
You'll have to be really good scorer/offensive player with an average wingspan wing to be a special wing player in the league. Only guys I can name are Reddick and KCP, and I'm 50-50 on both.
Terrence Ross or JR Smith could be good comparison (best case) for Korkmaz.

I want Korkmaz to say overseas another year to develop. If he comes over now he will still be too raw and not ready to contribute. If he comes over after his 2nd year he will be more developed and might be able to be a contributor from day one as well as still being locked into his 4 year rookie contract like Saric.

I think saying he's exactly Redick is overrating him. Redick has 4 years in a row over 19 points per 36 minutes at ~60 ts%. Stauskas set career highs this year at 12.4 and 54.0. He has a long way to go to reach Redick. He's got a ways to go and he's not really that young at this point. At least Redick can provide rotation quality minutes for a few years.

Saric did that because he promised he would, while Korkmaz was actually pretty upset about us drafting him (since he expected to go 12-15 spots higher). Different situations, and I would think Korkmaz considers staying for that 3rd year if he's already staying 2.

Unfortunately, I think Stauskas has a fatal flaw in that he has emotional problems.
He has improved over the last two years, but conversely I think he has also shown that he really DOES have emotional problems that aren't likely to go away.
By the time he fixes his confidence and nervous problems he is likely to be too old to play basketball.
Therefore he has a tenuous grasp on an nba career.

Korkmaz probably gets zero run for us next season.

Which likely gives him even more motivation to stay for multiple years instead of just next year. If he can make an extra $20m or so and needs the development time, seems like an easy decision to make.
