Just watched the Laker Heat game and Winslow and DeAngelo Russell are the same height. Hope he has a growth spurt over the summer

Draymond Green without shoes is 6'5.8" and a standing reach of 8'9" and he is one of the best defensive 5s in the game. I dont get what the worry is about Winslow's size. You guys have already seen him as a 19-20 year old pretty much hold his own against a lot of NBA 4s. Hes probably going to guard 2s and 3s the majority of the time anyways and I think you all have seen enough that he can handle himself there. I just dont get the worry about his size. I think in his prime youre going to see him be able to guard 1-4s regularly.

I swear that we cherry pick every outlier in the league to keep the dream alive. I dont care how short Draymond is or how slow Kwahi and JimmyB supposedly started off, Justise will never be on that level, and thats ok.......assuming "he knows his place now"

Where does the certainty that he'll never be on their level stem from? lol, he's so young and talented. what is his place? he knows his place after playing through a sprained shooting wrist in his first season with a substantial offensive load?
I had a bruised wrist once and i did not shoot jumpshots until it felt better cause it was too uncomfortable. he literally played nba games through it and it was sprained lol. if anything, thats pretty impressive. i think some of us really understate the impact injuries can have on a player's season.
are yall forgetting what he looked like in the preseason? Dude was balling. bet money he has a good year . lets go im a broke college student, i can use the cash!!!

Easy way to tell if we're "to close to the situation", would be to ask another non rival fanbase about Justise. You'd quickly find out that his potential is viewed the same way that we Heat fans view players like Stanley Johnson and Ronde Hollis Jefferson.
He didn't even dominante offensively on the highschool level, but yall keep up the faith. He shouldn't be a point forward for any team until he becomes a threat to do anything ever.He definitely is a Ron Artest/Anthony Mason type, and that's if he becomes a slightly above average shooter one day.
no, but he dominated in the ncaa tournament averaging 15,10, 3, 1.5 blks, 1.5 stls, over 50% from 3 and overall, AS A FRESHMAN and lead them to the title. Freshmen teams usually dont win the title, he lead his team to one. he was an awesome rookie. he had a chit season last year, but if yall dont think that dude has crazy high potential as a wing in this league, ur tripping. hes much better than stanley johnson, and hollis jefferson, so far anyway - maybe that will change but i doubt it. i dont want the opinion of a rival fanbase if they easily equate justise to those guys lol.

Re: Winslow
Winslow was the most impactful player from that Duke championship team, most notably in the tournament when he averaged 14-9-3-2-2 on 59% TS in 31 minutes while being their best defender. As Spoelstra always says about Winslow, "He makes winning plays..." Of course there's something special that he sees in Winslow first hand in detail, or behind the scenes, that some of us as fans cannot gather from solely watching his games.

Re: Winslow
This is what talented players with flaws look like. winslows flaws are easier to observe because his biggest short coming as an nba player hold him back in other aspects: he cant shoot. its a debilitating weakness for a developed vet, but winslow is far from that lol. I dont get how some of yall watch a bunch of basketball and then clown on this guy. he has the potential to be terrifying.
TERRIFYING. In my opinion, he has the tools to become a good scorer in the leauge, he just doesnt know how to use them. hes already an awesome defender and glue guy. He plays smart. The thing that sets him apart is that he has this hunger quality to him. Its the kind of characteristic that lets guys take over games. In his prime, I can see him doing some kawhi chit in the sense that he has the focus to maintain the kind of effort to string together a 5 minute period where he makes play after play. That isnt common. He's the kind of guy that can get a putback, come back down and shut down the other teams best player, then come back and get a bucket, then shut his guy down again, and continue.
this guy can become someone who takes over games. he has the talent and the mentality to do so.

I agree bringing up great players that are outliers isn't a good way to make an argument. That was kind of my point to my post though, when it comes to his height you shouldn't have to compare him to anyone else. You saw what he was capable of doing on the NBA level as a 19-20 year old. You saw he was able to already be a really good defender against 2s and 3s and he was able to hold his own against a good amount of 1s and 4s. I think by the age of 25-26 I think it's safe to say he might be able to be a reliable defender 1-4, this is going off what he has shown.

Re: Winslow
While he might never be Butler, Leonard or Green - keep in mind that all of those guys came into the league much older than Justise did.
Rookie year age:
Butler - 22yo (rookie year stats: 2.6ppg, 1.3rpg, 0.3apg, 0.3spg, 0.1bpg, 40.5%fg in 8.5mpg)
Leonard - 20yo
Green - 22yo (rookie year stats: 2.9ppg, 3.3rpg, 0.7apg, 0.5spg, 0.3bpg, 32.7%fg in 13.4mpg)
So Butler and Green were older than Winslow is now when they entered the league. Don't forget it was only a couple years ago Butler was shooting 39% from the floor for the season, and Green still is not a high % shooter (41.8% this year).
For reference, Kawhi at age 21: 11.9ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.6apg, 1.7spg, 0.6bpg, 49.4%fg in 31.2mpg.
Justise at age 21: 10.9ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.7apg, 1.5spg, 0.3bpg, 35.6%fg in 34.7mpg
Don't get me wrong, Justise may never be as good as any of these guys - particularly Kawhi, who is a flat out MVP candidate. But at 21, he's doing fine. If he can get his offensive efficiency up to at minimum Draymond levels, he's gonna be a very good player. If he exceeds that? Sky's the limit.

Re: Winslow
I hear all of you, I know that he isnt terrible at all things basketball, but our future resources are very limited and we definitely needed more from our lottery selection than a reliable defender.
His best stretch of basketball and his only claim to fame came during a 5 game stretch over two years ago when he averaged a staggering 15ppg during a college tournament.
I don't buy the injury excuse for last season's woes. I'll let the timeline numbers decide if last season was an anomaly
1st Orlando SL-- 11ppg..2reb..2ast..34%fg..12%3pt
1st Vegas SL-------4ppg..2reb..0ast..33%fg..50%3pt
1st Preseason-----6ppg..5reb..3reb..27%fg..18%3pt
1st Nba season---6ppg..5reb..1ast..42%fg..27%3pt
1st Nba Playoffs-7ppg..5reb..0ast..43%fg..27%3pt
2nd Orlando SL-16ppg..3reb..2ast..29%fg..23%3pt ----- smh and thats at 15fga
2nd preseason----8ppg..3reb..2ast..42%fg..35%3pt
(This Season )---11ppg..5reb..3ast..34%fg..18%3pt
Sorry guys, but in the history of the nba, no one has ever suddenly morphed into a great NBA player after doing so little and inefficiently with heavy rotation minutes. While his name is still famous, we need to test the draft trade market for him before he loses his value on "potential" and becomes our version of Marcus Smart.

Because of the injury its too early to say what his ceiling. It looking good for him to be an all star. Super star: meh, need to see way more on the Offensive side ( has BBall High IQ defensively on other side he hasn't shown ability to apply that BBIQ. All Star: Yes...

Smh I can just feel it, we're gonna waste another season trying to force Winslow into a franchise player that he's not. We need Waiters,Goran, and JJ handling the ball. It has been proven that our offense flourishes when someone who can actually shoot plays at sf. JRich has outplayed Winslow by alot in both yrs of summerleague and in their 1st two seasons in the league, but Justise will be handed a job again because he was drafted #10 and went to Duke.

I think we can all agree Winslow can be a 15-20 ppg/5apg/5rpg guy if he develops a competent jumper. I'm not saying it's likely he reaches that, but it's possible.

It just seems like youre already willing to give up on a guy that just turned 21 and has basically played just 1 season. I dont think Chicago fans and Spurs fans were seeing a guaranteed franchise player from Butler and Kawhi when they were 21. Butler wasnt even in the NBA at 21 and wasnt a normal rotation player till he was 23 and wasnt a consistent starter till he was 24 and that year he still scored only 13pts on 39/28/76 shooting. Im not saying Justise is going to be on their level, but you gotta be somewhat patient with these young raw wings. Youve basically only seen Justise for 1 year.

It's 2017, simply being tall doesn't make a player a great defender and simply being short doesn't make a player a bad defender. They're other factors besides height that determines how good of a defender a player is. Draymond is not an outlier in this he's just an example of what a great stretch four in today's era should look like. You're not being asked to only guard the rim as a big now, you're also asked to defend the perimeter. See Thaddeus Young who's only 6-8 and one of the better defenders at the power forward position.

Entering the league earlier means he'll have to get paid earlier also. That's what it will come down to. If a team comes and Tyler Johnson's him, do you match again.

That depends on how he progresses over the next two years. I believe he is still under contract for next year and then has the team option for the year after then he becomes a restricted FA and thats when that situation comes up. So really it all depends on how he looks in 2 years. If he still shows no sign in improving his shooting and scoring efficiency and a team comes in and offers him 4/54 or something like that, then ya id probably let him walk. But say in two years he hits 35% from 3 and 60% at the rim, well Id probably match whatever anyone throws his way because the chances of him turning into a 20/5/5 player with elite defense would look a lot more promising. So it really all depends on how he improves over the next 2 years and how much a team throws his way.

Personally i would like to give Winslow a chance but please remember we have Pat in charge. Pat will not wait for Winslow. Pat is a man full of pride that is trying to get back to the playoffs and contending at all cost before he retires which is coming up soon. Pat is the living definition of what have you done for me lately. So yes while i would like to give Winslow a chance to show he is not the draft bust some are saying he is, its Pat's call and he is very impatient so the writing is on the wall here.

You're saying the complete opposite to what the person I quoted is saying. You're saying Pat wants to win now and the writing is on the wall that Pat is going to move on. While the person I quoted is saying that another season is going to be waisted forcing Justise into the franchise player role. So what one is it? Is next season going to be waisted giving Justise the franchise role or is the writing on the wall that the franchise is already move on from him. And I want to make sure I'm being clear, I'm not asking that in a snarky sarcastic way, you all are fans of this team and know it a hell of a lot better than I do. So I really am curious if the writing is on the wall that Pat has given up on Justise.
