Trade for Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul

Post#1 » by ALL HAIL » Mon May 1, 2017 4:13 pm

All of this hinges on Milsap opting out:

Trade Bazemore for Anthony.

Trade Schroeder to the Clippers in a sign and trade for Chris Paul:

PG - Paul - Delaney
SG - Hardaway - Bembry
C - Howard - Muscala
PF - Anthony - Ilyasova
SF - Prince - Dunkeavy

Here is my offseason:

Re-sign Paul Llysova Calderon Humphries

Let Muscala and Kelly battle it out in camp

Allow THJ & Thabo to walk

pull this trade http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n5mk9r5
Bazemore & Dunleavy + picks to New York for Carmelo.

Sign Roberson (RFA) away from OKC.
Draft backup SG & Center.

Schroder
Roberson
Anthony
Millsap
Howard

Calderon/Delaney
Mitchell (R)/Bembry

Why not just tade Dennis and Baze for Anthony, and sign Paul straight out?

I definitely considered that, and it's a possibility, but I decided against it because I wasn't sure if New York had any assets the Hawks would want in return, because something else would have to come back to Atlanta in that scenario.

I don't think Anthony should be Hardin SFs anymore. He needs to guard PFs exclusively.

Knicks will get a better offer for Melo than Bazemore, who has Crabbe value right now. Even DeMarre Carroll has more value at this time.
Melo has to approve, which he would not since he's not the focal point of the offense, and Bud brought Prince and Bembry in to fill that role.
I like the frontline we have, and now its about improving both slots in the backcourt. THJ and DS are not enough in a playoff series.

We need to take the Division back from the Wizards. We can't let them step over us that easy.

At this point, I'd strongly consider making a tepid trade offer for Carmelo.

In an exchange of bad contracts, I'd offer Kent Bazemore + #31 this year for Melo. (This is where trade filler like Edy Tavares could come in handy.)

NY gets a decent 3 & D player at SG. We get a vet All Star in the short term.

Most importantly, 'Melo's contract is a year shorter than KB.

We ride out the next 2 years with aging HOFs at Center and Small Forward.

You might even get another All Star of yesteryear to jump aboard as well. D Wade. Z-Bo. Vince Carter. Joe Johnson. Tyson Chandler.

It won't win you a title, but it sells tickets. And you can structure all your deals to expire in the same year, making us huge Free Agent players in 2019.

^^^^^^^ sign me up

Highly doubt Melo would wave his no trade clause to come to Atlanta though. I have this feeling if CLE gets run out of the gym in the Finals by the Warriors they become Melos #1 destination. I dont know HOW, maybe Love for Melo straight up. But i just think that hes in play there for some reason. Or the Clippers

I've been advocating a move for Melo for a while. Phil Jackson really wants him gone so id try to keep the 31st pick and give them Bazemore since that pick is like a late first rounder in his loaded draft. If they insist then I'd fold and include it however.

Melo added to this team would give us the best front court in the east and at least create a path to the ECF. He could take a lot of pressure of Millsap's shoulders in crunch time of the playoffs.

1. I (mostly) agree
2. I was more advocating a move for Melo if Millsap leaves.

I'd much rather pay $60 million for Melo than $250+ million for Bazemore and Millsap. (Man that sounds terrible.)

A team of Dwightmare/Melo/DS would be so awful to watch lol Are there enough basketballs to go around?

But long term I would feel better, we would be rid of Anthony in less then a year , Baze is gone/Millsap gone. wouldnt have a problem with it.

But Again i dont see Anthony agreeing to it

CP and Melo are 5 years ago. Hawks need new stars. Got to aim for the draft and develop young, cheap FAs.

Just kicking the tires, but what about the following:

The Bulls board seem to hope that the FO will blow it up. Seems like everyone is accessible.

So I was looking at 2 separate trades.

The first one would be a Baze for Melo swap. We kick some 2nd's if need be to NY.

Next, we trade DH to Portland, Portland sends a first(protected) and whatever salary they need to send out (Meyers Leonard seemed to work)to Chicago, Chicago sends us Rolo, Portis, and Valentine. If need be, we can send #31(or a protected first) to Chicago as well.

Melo is our go-to guy; Valentine is a spot-up shooter off the bench; Portis can stretch the floor and be the 3rd big; and Rolo is a cheaper, quality center who hustles.

Re-sign Sap, Ersan, and THJ(Calderon if we're really going all in)

Now we're looking at:

PG- Schro/Calderon/Delaney
SG- THJ/Valentine/Bembry
SF- Melo/Prince
PF- Sap/Ersan/Portis
C- Rolo/Portis

That team doesn't look to bad, and we cut a year off of Baze, while improving the bench with some quality young guys.

interesting on paper, but highly doubtful seeing as we dont even have a GM. And im not sure that Chicago gets rid of their young guys either like Portis?

If Sap leaves, and it doesn't sound likely, we are starting over.

Saying that, I'd prefer Sap to remain here as our All-Star rep because folks, we don't have another and we're not going to acquire another.

Always been a fan of Melo, Wade & Rondo, but not sure our cap would allow it for guys like this to help us at crunch time.

Yeah I thought that initially as well. The board just seems to want a complete firesale rebuild. Doubt the actual FO would move Portis for 2nds like they want to.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
