Oladipo "most efficient year": highest efg% (but barely above league average), ts% only tied last season (and was below league average).
But that is just shooting. For overall efficiency Oladipo had his worst season by BPM, tied for worst by PER, 2nd best by WinShares per 48 minutes. RPM, 2nd best but down from last season.

Adams "room to improve". Yeah from lowest FT rate for regular season of career, lowest defensive rebounding rate, lowest block rate, BPM very near his worst, still anemic assist rate. Playoffs, worst TS%, worst FT rate, worst defensive rebounding rate.

Explore "players in new roles more" Why didn't you do more of that quicker and more effectively?

Still touting with pride the incredible youth of team. Never talks about the costs of being so young in playoffs. Only valuable if players grow & stay. Will they? Will Russ still be there?

My major take on the players in new roles thing was: Oladipo running lead guard more and McDermott playing the 4. FINALLY.

(that is, if they stay around).

Alex and Doug. In playoffs? -16 per 100 possessions as a pair on court together. In regular season negative too but not as bad.

Needs work for sure. I don't think it's worth playing them together unless one or both takes a significant leap on defense.

Abrines at PG? Didn't really happen. Abrines at SF? 82games estimates good team results. Not good at matchup level but good for team in modest trial. Average SF defense.

McDermott by position. At SF he does terrible in match up but team broke even. SG is horrendous at both levels. At PF, horrendous at both levels.

Oladipo at PG... horrendous at match-up level, break even at team level. At SF close to break even at both levels.

Playing small more... "13th in league", "more than before". Not sure how he calculates that.

82games data says Roberson and team far better with him at SG. That's bigball, not small move.

Grant at PF "helps us" oh? 82 games says it was his worst position and by far worst for team. Presti made up his view of that reality.

Gibson at Center did well in short minutes. But they are unlikely to retain or exploit that. An opportunity likely not explored further. Explored too little and too late.

Small ball tends to refer more to the frontcourt positions, anyway. Someone was talking about that the other day (don't remember where), but basically said when GSW plays small they're not actually small—they're still massive. Main reason to go small is to be able to switch at least 2 through 4, if not 2 through 5. Usually means a bunch of guys around 6'7" to 6'9"ish and mobile.

Is that the kind of press conference you want? My goodness, Presti is just being positive for the media. He's probably drinking himself to death at home thinking what could've done.

"Performed pretty well against better teams"? Is 13-19 against top 10 is good? 13th best record on that, slightly worse than the overall record ranking. 1-4 first round exit is whatever you want to make it I guess.

We can't really defend with Grant at the 4. Several hundred minutes of it in the regular season and we ended up with a 110 DRtG iirc.

bbms, I didn't expect different but there is plenty of room between what Presti gave and the straw man reveal you opposed it with. He noted issues with fouls and turnovers. Then said "marginal improvements" would help a lot. No, marginal improvements would yield marginal gains.

More honesty would have included:

Semaj was a good passer but struggled with his shot and needs more time to be an acceptable leader of the bench unit.

Victor was in a new situation but he needs to be more assertive.

Steven improves in some ways but regressed in others. He needs to take responsibility for creating more offense and stay 100% on D and be more consistently vocal leading it.

Alex found some shots but he needs to find some assists too.

Doug did some good things in playoffs but he has to get go a higher level if we are going to a higher level.

Jerami can do some good things but his plus minus needs a lot of improvement.

Are we really debating what Presti gave us on his press conference? Man. Imagine you run a bussiness with partners, employees and stuff. Would you solve your internal issues in front of your costumers? No. Because that's not what professionals do.

By your logic Presti probably shouldn't have had a press conference (could have just made a statement) but he did. So folks are going to react.

i think in terms of transparency with the fans and sharing honest assessments with the media, the thunder would rank at or near the bottom of the league. the amount of lip service that comes from sam is not a usual amount. especially with teams that want to win something. sam professes to want to be like the spurs organization and we all know about gregg popovich's candor.

We witnessed one of the most amazing individual seasons in the last 50 years. It was coupled with one of the crappiest supporting casts in the NBA. To top it off, there isn't really any kind of an easy fix. So when we hear the GM sing praises about the construction of the roster and future potential of the youth, I think people have the right to be a little frustrated. If Presti can't handle that, he can always tell the truth about what he thinks about this roster. I think it's within any fans rights to question what he says, even if what he says is most likely rehearsed.

he's been talking about the youth of our roster for eight years.
