Report: Jānis Timma moving to Spain

Post#1 » by drsd » Tue May 2, 2017 6:11 am

Magic international prospect Janis Timma inked a new deal with Saski Baskonia of the Spanish ACB league, likely meaning he will not be available to play for the Magic — or their Summer League team — for a few years. Mundo Deportiva reports it is a three-year deal.

Timma is 24 meaning he would be eligible to come to the Magic around the time we expect the team to be playoff-worthy, and he would be in his prime. For 2021, he could be a nice bench addition.

They got Timma essentially for nothing.

Maybe he will be ready in a few years.

If he won't be available until after he passes 26 years old, I just doubt he ever comes over to play for the Magic.

Well at least we have an unknown Euro stashed somewhere and if he looks good, we bring him over

I believe Vazquez is coming off the bench for his overseas team.

He is never coming over.

Timma may or may not but again, they got him for nothing.

Wow. Fran Vazquez was 12 years ago, he's 36 now.

I think it's time Magic fans officially move on. :P

He's the perfect guy to pair with Vucevic.

I'm a little surprised we still have his draft rights. Do they ever expire?

It would be a little funny if we rescinded his rights finally, only to have him sign with somewhere like Golden State.

Yes.

From Coon, "... the team retains the player's draft rights in the NBA until one year after the player's contract with the non-NBA team ends."

So if a basketball player does not play professionally for a year, their draft rights expire. This is most relevant to a person who no longer is a professional athlete.
