It'll be interesting to see if Bud gets stripped of front office duties as a follow up.

It'd to be too embarrassing to demote one of the most prominent figures in the front office. If he keeps his job, he'll likely retain his title publicly but cede personnel duties to a new GM privately. 'Choosing to focus on coaching' is likely what the press release will say.
But there are some conflicting reports floating around through the ajc. Could this firing have leaked before Wes was officially let go?!?

I agree. That's the good way to handle it. Keep coach Bud, bring in a killer GM; improve scouting and drafting and do it right. Hope this is what is happening.

I stand corrected.
Good for Ressler. This was needed. A new vision, more focused direction.
I wish we could go back to summer 2015, man. We were flush with options, assets and possibilities. Two years later, we're a worse team with fewer options. All due to Bad asset management. Poor vision.

There are conflicting reports on any front office changes and it wouldn't matter, the owner himself is on record nixing previous Millsap trades and saying he wants him back.

I'd love to see Bud just focus on Coaching.
I'm curious to see what happens over the next couple of months and to see what type of decisions are made before the draft.

Oh yeah... I even wish we could go back to 2014 when we had up to 17M to spend adding talent to this coming 60W roster and let Deng and Gasol sign with opponents for that total

I don't...know what this means.
I just meant that the first offseason these two were in charge, the team had: 1)cap space 2) a solid draft pick and 3) a team Free Agents would actually want to play for.
And I believe we completely misplayed that offseason -- leading to free agent defections and a declining record as a result.

I wrote fastly but there's no problem, sorry

I was just agreeing with you on your point (2015) but added that there were already mistakes during the previous summer, and I could add other mistakes from 2016
It's just that for me, they made bad choices in 2015 but that they started to make errors while having a very core to build a true contenter in 2014 which would have change all the following seasons

Re: Hawks "gm" won't be back
Basketball InsidersThe belief this week is that the Hawks would like to keep Wilcox in the fold and have him play a role going forward. The question becomes whether Wilcox, who is a solid NBA executive, wants to take what would ultimately be a demotion.
This would explain why no outright firing of Wes has occurred...yet.

RealGMRealGM Wiretap wrote:Wes Wilcox has resigned from his position as general manager of the Atlanta Hawks but will remain with the team as special advisor to ownership.
The move comes along with Mike Budenholzer's resignation as president of basketball operations. Budenholzer will remain as head coach.
Wilcox was promoted to general manager in June 2015.
“What makes our organization strong is that everyone is working together for the good of the Hawks. That was my thinking when Bud and I met with ownership after the season and recommended this new structure,” Wilcox said. “I’m grateful for my time as general manager and consider it a privilege to be asked by Tony to continue on as a special advisor. I look forward to working closely with ownership to bring a championship to Atlanta.”Via RealGM Staff Report
I have serious doubts that Wes went to his boss and requested a demotion after the season.
