Kobe Bryant Advising Isaiah Thomas During Playoffs

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 3, 2017 10:49 pm

Kobe Bryant has been advising Isaiah Thomas regularly since the start of the playoffs.

Bryant began helping Thomas after the Celtics lost the first two games of their first round series to the Chicago Bulls.

"He reached out on behalf of my sister when [she passed away]," Thomas said of Bryant. "He wanted to go over film with me. He called me and we did it. He made me figure out a lot of things... He's just been a very helping hand when it comes to the film and figuring out what to do the next day."

Thomas had 53 points in Game 2.

"He's been sending me a text before and after every game since the first round. He definitely helps. He just tells me what he sees and what I should be watching for in film," Thomas said.

Thomas was surprised at the detail Bryant paid attention to.

"Mentally, he's just on a different level than anybody I've ever met. We were on the phone for 30 minutes. I e-mailed him my film and he watched every second, telling me what times to go to look at and certain plays and things I didn't look at when I watched film. Mentally, you can tell he's one of the greatest ever."

It's fascinating because IT's always been a Laker at heart. But above all he's a competitor and will play to win regardless of the color of the jersey.

I've always hated Kobe, but gotta respect this move. He's doing his part to make the game greater, even if it's little things like reviewing film with an opposing team's star PG. Very selfless move.

I get why Lakers fans hate this, Kobe should spend some time doing this with LA's young players so that they make the playoffs someday.

I remember IT being a free agent who was ultimately had for $5 million per season by a team that already had two star PGs.

Buss/Kupchak instead decided to go all-in for Carmelo. IT comes from a family of Lakers fans too. Amazing.

Obviously a bad decision, but he could have been had by any team and everyone but the Suns seemed to pass on him. And even the Suns gave him away after a season. On draft night everyone but the Kings with the last pick at 60th passed on him. I guess he is finally not underestimated.

But Isaiah hadn't grown up a fan of every other team, and not every team had an opening at PG.
