Hawks’ Ressler says he makes final decisions, confident in front office

Tony Ressler doesn’t foresee changes to the Hawks’ front office despite a win total that has decreased in each of the two seasons that he has owned the team and set up the current hierarchy. He likes how the team is positioned and its future despite his frustration with the regression.

Changes may be coming to the Hawks front office, the scope of which the organization is still determining and has yet to announce.

A meeting was held late Wednesday with principal owner Tony Ressler to discuss a number of restructuring options, according to several people familiar with the situation. The announcement of changes could come as soon as this week.

Sounds like Tony Ressler is either full of crap or prone to massive mood swings from week to week.

I'd love to hear what input Grant Hill played in this.

Ressler: ‘These changes could help us be better’

Hawks principal owner Tony Ressler confirmed changes to the front office structure in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday.

Ressler said he will hire an outside person to run basketball operations as general manager.

Ressler told the AJC: “I do think both Bud and Wes are talented, good guys....we did have at the end...of the season...thorough, exhaustive discussions with each of them. In their defense, all recognized and recommended that we could be better and that these changes could help us be better.”

“I think it was a matter of could we bring in a new GM, a new body, a new advisor, a new professional who would make us better. The simple answer is I think we can. That is what we are going to try to do.”

I've been operating under the presumption that Ressler was waiting until the end of the season, with 3 full seasons (and post-seasons) to determine if a massive change in direction is necessary.

I do think the constant stream of negative press from vocal AJC columnists, prominent fan-sites and local local on-air radio hosts is difficult for an owner to ignore.

I believe T Ressler (and Grant Hill) have realized this team plateaued years ago and a new (experienced) Front Office leader is necessary for long term growth.
