Every account I'm sure is a public account. Russell is a naturally gifted athlete and relies on much of that athleticism in his game, but no one is going to come out and publicly blast Westbrook for his inability to be coached. It's just not going to happen because it's not good for the organization from a PR standpoint.

It's not about narrative. I could care less if I like the narrative or not. Most OKC fans love the narrative of Durant being a cupcake and a bitch for leaving Westbrook. I'm not on of them. I'm simply suggesting that it is possible.

We don't have footage of Russ ignoring or disrespecting either Brooks or Donovan in the way that Bron and some of the Cavs players did Blatt. We don't have accounts of him complaining about either coaching or front office.

Donovan's gone out of his way to praise his overall BBIQ and work ethic, which seems a bit counterproductive if he's boneheaded enough that he just does his own thing all the time.

Basically your argument boils down to "I think Russell Westbrook is this way, and I don't believe that either the positive accounts that have come from the people that played with him or the absence of people running him down mean anything". Yes, I know it's bad PR if you say that, but think this through.

Is it possible that for years Russ has been a problem, a boneheaded player and someone who makes coaches walk on eggshells around him? Sure, it's theoretically in the realm of possibility. But for it to have gone this long with no one saying anything is Illuminati-level conspiracy. Someone would have talked. We've had enough players and front office types move through the organization that something would have leaked—it always does. It hasn't. If there'd been anything specific there to leak, it would have come out in the aftermath of the Durexit.

Shhhh... don't wake the people that think Donovan is a bad coach.

Seriously, though. It's not fair to grade Donovan if this is something that happens on a regular basis. So if Donovan calls a play, and Westbrook just doesn't run it, we won't know unless someone leaks something and OKC is notorious for being a tight-lipped organization.

How can you grade a coach when the star player isn't listening to his head coach? Not saying that this is the case, but if it is, not fair to Donovan.

I don't doubt this is true at all. The problem is it's hard enough to find a superstar. Then you try to find one that doesn't have an ego...impossible. That being said I don't think Russ should be beyond question. I have bug issues with our style of play. I'm just not sure who bears the most responsibility for this.

That Lowe article does ring a bell, actually. I don't remember the Lowe and Thorpe podcast but I probably wouldn't have heard it anyway.

If there's stuff out there, fair enough. I just don't remember having heard it.
