Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 4
Saw this posted on another forum about Rockets offense and the Spurs staying big to control pace.
The problem with the Rockets is the same problem they've had all season long with this system: They always gotta do shyt to the extreme, layups or 3s. So Pop simply put in two 7 footers and took away the layups while having his wings anticipate the likely passing lanes for the kicks out.
Doug Collins called that shyt out by saying if Houston would simply take that mid range shot, it would help alleviate a lot of their scoring problems. But it's always gotta be one extreme or the other.
This is compounded by them not running much set plays. So even out of a timeout it's like the same ol iso or pick n roll shyt. It's predictable, and it forces Harden to have to do too much everytime down.

Houston's bench combined for 10 points in game 3.

nate33 wrote:We're a bit more fortunate because Wall appears to be a tier higher than those guys. Wall may not be quite on the Lebron/Kawhi/Harden/Curry/Durant tier, but he's just below them and among the top 10 in the league. And given his age, Beal might one day get into the top 10-15 as well.
I think we're more than a bit more fortunate. We got tremendously lucky to win the Wall sweepstakes. He's not LeBron. But he's basically next after LeBron. Wall is the best perimeter player of his class, and really Curry is the only other one drafted around him as good or better IMO. Curry is something different and special, and he has everything in place around him in Golden State to lead a dynasty.
But peak Wall is going to be better than Westbrook and Harden IMO, because he is so much smarter than they are. He reads the game like LeBron and he's an athletic force of nature at his position like LeBron.
Another thing going for Wall is that he's got a true partner in Beal. Beal is a Ray Allen clone, and I think he too goes down as the best perimeter player from his class. He's the ideal SG to pair with Wall, in game and temperament. LeBron didn't get a Beal to grow up with during his first stint in Cleveland. If he had, he probably wouldn't have left. So we're really lucky that Charlotte made the incredibly stupid decision to draft MKG.
And we lucked into Gortat and Porter too. The Gortat situation is strange in hindsight. Phoenix decides to blow it up and trade the ideal center to pair with Wall (for minimal cost) right when our old one went down with a career ending injury? Not only that, he hits free agency and is courted by the Heat and Spurs and he decides to stay with us instead? And he's ended up being an iron man whose gotten us 7 or 8 win shares each of the last four years. Of all teams, we got lucky. Good centers don't become available like that right when you need them. We were **** around with the JaVale McGees of the world before that happened.
As for Porter, it was obviously a big stroke of luck to jump from 8 to 3 in that lottery and come away with him. I think he's another one of those gems whose perfect in game and temperament for playing with Wall and Beal.
This team is not in the same situation as Boston and Toronto. Depending on where they land in the lottery, Boston is going to have to make a choice between taking their shot with Thomas or blowing it up and building around one of these PG prospects in the draft.
Toronto is going to have to eventually blow it up too. Meanwhile the Wizards have next after the Cavs for when LeBron finally gets old.

Shelvin Mack is ballin' for Utah in Game 3. Started and is in double figures.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

KD is such a luxury for the Warriors. It's really not fair.

I was hoping that at least ratings fell down in this years playoffs but no.
Nothing will change.
Western series with Warriors are boring. Last time I watch them.

Yeah, they're the proverbial fart in the elevator. Having what should be at market rate 4 max players on a single team is just ridiculous and undercuts the entertainment value of the entire league. I can barely bring myself to watch them.
They did play nice team defense (exacerbated by Utah having no lead guard), but Curry and Thompson going 7-29 from the field combined and not having that equate to vulnerability makes me wonder what the point of watching the playoffs is.
They get a polite golf clap at best if they win the championship.

I'm reading through the book of proverbs, which part has the fart in the elevator?

Utah had a chance despite being without George Hill. It was a fun game to watch up until the closing minutes of the game.

It's from Aesop's "The Ass in the Stall."
Some things are timeless.

I'm curious to see how Lou Williams will adjust and raise his play. San Antonio has much better perimeter defenders across the board than OKC, who probably had the worst defending point guards in the postseason due to Westbrook exerting so much energy on the offensive end and the Thunder's lack of depth. Williams is more than capable of stepping up his game. Rockets would certainly be pretty shorthanded without Williams since they are already playing an 8 man rotation.

Not a good comparison. Parker at this stage of his career was a shell of his former self. He was bit piece as Patty Mills has been the better player for a couple of years now.

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 4
Loyality in Spurs organization has two sides. From PR perspective is awesome that players who stayed with them can end their careers in San Antonio and won't be traded like Pierce or KG or not being paid like Wade. But the other side isn't so bright. Parker, Manu are so old that they hurt the team more than doing something good. I think that is the main reason that they don't have any chance to go to the finals. Imagine If they could invest money they throw away on those 2 and sign someone younger as PG and SG.

Tony Parker isn't even overpaid. Probably paid Manu in an agreement that helped them sign LaMarcus Aldridge as Manu did take a massive paycut in 2014-15 and has been massively underpaid throughout his career.

Do You think old man Parker has any chance to run with Curry or Ginobli vs Klay? Wasted money if You ask me. Better next year they will milk that cow again.

Ginobili is a free agent next season. As for running with the Warriors, not sure which PG addition makes them contenders against that Golden State team other than Russell Westbrook or John Wall. CP3 could be had if the Spurs decide to stretch Parker, but he would be giving up a lot of money to leave LA.

Parker had been their starting PG up until he got injured, correct me if I'm wrong.
