Age relative to current skill-level/ACB production. I'm not trying to be a dick, but Diop isn't good (at all). He is 22 (maybe older), playing in his fourth ACB season and is still basically a scrub. He averages close to 6 fouls for every 1 block against Euroleague competition.
I have to agree, he's not considered a promising prospect in the ACB. He doesn't have a ton of skill. His game is a poor man's Capela but Clint has more skill and discipline. He's not uber athletic. I mean he's African but I can't see any other reason for Masai to put much weight on him. Siakam is also African and a much better player.
BoyzNTheHood reveals gems to this board but I don't see it on this one, especially at our pick.
Fair enough. He looks to have incredible tools, but maybe he's lazy or doesn't understand plays.
He honestly looks like a gem to me, but I can't say I'm knowledgeable about the ACB so I can't really comment further than scouting reports I read for Diop.
I don't know much about him either. One thing I took away from that video of him was what it didn't show. It didn't show him doing much of anything apart from dunking. Sometimes that's irrelevant because someone just didn't bother to show any other footage, but I think more often what you don't see in all these youtube videos is very telling. Particularly if you can look at several and keep finding the same things missing. This is the one thing I think I've learned about scouting which I learned before the Bargnani draft. All I saw was highlight reels Bargs shooting 3s and I kept thinking, can't he do anything else? I mean he's 7 feet tall, can't he rebound or block shots? We all know how that turned out. Poor shot blocker and the worst rebounding 7 foot player in the history of the game. I try to always look for what's missing when I come across players I haven't watched in actual games. Guys without footage of shooting, defending, hustling, handling the ball etc. provide a lot of information even though they're just hyping prospects. Again, this is just something I learned and the Bargs lesson was a hard one indeed. Sadly, that's one of the only conclusions I've drawn over the years.
Anyone else have any tips, rules or guidelines they've picked up from reading and watching too many prospects over the years? Or am I the only one without a life? lol.
