Which teams besides Phillies are close to 10,000 L's?

Post#1 » by HDMAVS760CA » Mon Jul 9, 2007 1:54 am

It was said on ESPN 2day that the Phillies have 9,999 losses in their history in about 124 years. They won 2day so 10,000 will happen another time. I didn't think they played that long. I know the oldest franchise happens 2 be the Reds. No its not the Devil Rays that's the next closest to 10K losses. I thought that the closest team to that amount was Cleveland. In the late 90's they got 1,000 losses vs. the Yanks & for most of the 80's & early 90's they'd lose 100 games every year. I thought they would be the closest. So who is it?

All it really means is you've been around as a franchise for a while.

that and they've sucked more than the 3 or 4 teams that have been around longer, which makes me smile because the phillies and their fans suck :)

Thanks 4 the info. Surprising. I just wonder how come they weren't harassed that much about losing all the time. Always Cleveland. I guess it was more fun dissing Cleveland & the Cubs.

Nice to see that the Cubs, will get their 10,000 win early next season!!!

It's funny, for a franchise that is synonymous with losing, they actually have one of the best all-time records in baseball.

Only Yankees, Dodgers, Giants, Cards, and Red Sox have a better winning %.

That even puts more shame on them not winning more championships.

10,000 L's is going to happen, right?

10,000 L's is going to happen, right? Like some of the posts say, it's just a matter of the teams that have been around since 19th century that are getting there quicker than others.

I find it funny that teams such as Cleveland that get such a bad rap... I think it's because of the movie "Major League" w/Charlie Sheen. Since 1989 when the movie came out everybody just assumed they suck as bad as they did in the movie.

The point being is that every team is eventually going to hit the 10,000 loss mark at some point, it's just how they get there is the fun part to watch. Some more than others... Phillies
