Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
I can't tell if I really like Donovan Mitchell or if he's going to end up being like Dion Waiters. He has the potential to be an impact scorer--e.g., CJ McCollum light. The athleticism is there. The handle and instincts are there. The steals are there. The question is how he'll work in the Jazz's system, or if he'll end up doing his own thing in the offense.
We need a scorer who can break down a defense.

In any case, I hope the Jazz get an athletic guard out of this draft, whether Frank Jackson, Diallo or Donovan. We can get a back-up big in the 2nd round.
It looks like DX has moved Thomas Bryant up a dozen spots in their mock after they saw him workout

Even if he ends up being Dion Waiters that would be a steal at 24 or later.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Mitchell. I have him 31st on my big board and I might even end up dropping him lower at some point.
Right now, with how my big board is setup, I have the Jazz drafting these guys with their picks:
#24: Juwan Evans
#30: Bam Edebayo
#42: Wesley Iwundu
#43: Josh Hart
It will probably change as some guys choose to go back to school and as the combine and workouts progress, but that's where we're I'm at with our picks right now.
One guy to keep an eye on for a late second pick is Damyean Dotson. Looked up some film on him and I really liked a lot of things that I saw. Interesting guy in the late 2nd round. Great shooter, athletic and seems to have a good competitive attitude.

I'm with whomever said Deonte Burton. I don't know why he isn't in any of the mocks, but he's insanely athletic... almost LeBron like, it's actually kind of ridiculous.

First, he's nowhere near LeBron athletically. No one is. We should really stop using LeBron as a comparison. He's a one of kind, multi-generational talent. We may never see an athlete of his caliber ever again.
I also think Deonte is a bit older. He's a prototypical undrafted player that you'd call up to bring in to workout on your summer league team. Not sure I'd want to use a pick on him though.

Count me in the Deonte Burton camp as well. Lot of Draymond wannabe's in the second round. Maybe one of them can pan out.

If we could get Bam Adebayo a #30, that would be impressive. I think he has enough athleticism and basic skills to play the 4. He can really do virtually everything that Favors is currently doing, except that he'd need to develop as a pick-and-roll finisher. The question is whether that's the type of PF the Jazz want to play going forward. Sure, Bam could also play back-up 5. I think DJ Wilson has to enter the discussion, certainly at #30 and possibly even at #24. It's worth noting that Wilson apparently has already come in for an early workout with the Jazz.
I'd be curious to see what your big board looks like.

We don't want 4 rookies on our team. With all our injuries, we could not even find playing time for Bolomboy and we can probably all agree he deserved some. Why not trade up and get one really good guy instead? Make a package deal, just do something, anything to avoid 4 D- league guys coming our way.
The team does not need this, not now. Let Quinn develop further what we have instead.

Don't forget that we will be getting 2 extra flexible slots for the D-league and don't forget that we will need cheap contracts going forward with us pushing against the salary cap. I'm not sure we get 4 of them, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have 3 rookies in the final 17 next year.

Fair points obviously but I maintain this is bad timing from a development perspective. How about we trade for numbers 10 & 60 instead?

I wouldn't mind making a Kawhi Leonard type trade to get up higher in this years draft, but with Miles Bridges going back to school, I'm not sure which guy I'd be willing to make a big move for. Markkanen? Isaac? Smith? Ntilikina? Outside of those four, I'm not sure there's anyone else worth it to try and trade up for. And even then, I'm not totally sold on any of those guys, especially at the price we'd need to pay to get one of them.
Either way, I think this is the perfect year and draft to go get some rookies that we can stash in the D-league and develop. We don't need to have them playing with the primary team to develop, there's plenty of development that can happen in the D-league and then we can pull them up a year or two down the road when they're needed. Look at what the Spurs have done with Dewayne Dedmon and Johnathan Simmons. Those guys floated around in the D-league for awhile before making the Spurs roster and now they're a big part of the success the Spurs have had this season. I don't see why we can't follow a similar model with 3 or even 4 rookies in this years draft. It's such a deep draft and we should take advantage of that while we can. Even a mid second rounder in this years draft could end up being a better player/prospect than someone you'd get in the late first round in some other draft.

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
I haven't watched any video on any player. But with roster going to 17 players I am all for the Jazz using all those picks.
Bring in an extra few extra hands to dig deeper on this draft. That's 4 chances at a diamond in the rough. They are building those facilities and have the Stars in town. Draft some young guys and develop.

Seems like Frank Jackson is looking for a first round guarantee from a team(maybe the Jazz?) in order to stay in the draft. Would you give it to him?

I would. It's not like #24 or #30 are big commitments.

Combine measurements: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ot_OMGF7AddHIzI3MeMFW9RR7-Ko1Z98g1W4NdekR9Q/edit#gid=88833405
Some very interesting measurements.
Jeanne with 9'5.5" standing reach.
Ike with 7'6.25" wingspan...
OG measuring at 7'2" wingspan is pretty good too...
Giles measuring well, too... 9'1.5" standing reach. Biggest hands at the combine - 10.75" width
Zach Collins makes a good step towards the lottery too - 7 footer with 9'3" standing reach.
Justin Patton measures well too - 6'11" with 9' 3.5'' standing reach.
Jawun Evan unfrotunately measured under 6 feet in shoes with not great wingspan.
Monte Morris similarly - short wingspan of 6'4"
T-rex award of the year goes to Svi - measured at 6'6.5" with 6'5" wingspan.
Frank Jackson with good length - 6'3.5" in shoes with 6'7.5" wingspan
Fatty of the year goes to Tyler Lydon at 13.6% body fat.
