I don't know why people get upset over that. His not playing in SL isn't going to prevent him from becoming an All-Star. It just gives him more time to work on his game.

The literal definition of point guard is the player that guards point.

The word guard is a defensive term.

But in basketball terms the point guard is the guy who brings the ball up the court and runs the offense. LeBron does a lot of bringing the ball up and runs the offense but nobody calls him a point guard.

Or more time to HIDE from the public from not being able to shoot  . He can't hide forever. Sooner or later he will be in a packed building over 25k fans and the whole world will see if he can shoot. :D  . I'm on to Simmons. He only shows clips of him dunking on instagram or shooting 8 footers. He didn't shoot 3s before games this season like Embiid did. Simmons can't hide that shot forever. Stop hiding Ben. Come out  .

I'd call that the offensive playmaker or facilitator, some of which are also point guards, some of which are not (LeBron, Giannis, Simmons, Harden). The latter group runs the point on offense but are not guarding the point on defense, thus several are labeled Point Forwards.

He certainly runs the point on a lot of possessions. As to where he or Simmons are listed as the point guard, I don't really get why people care so much. As you mention with lebron, the way he's actually going to be used is much more important.

His shot is pretty broken... regardless he has the physical gifts and skills to be a star in this league... however improving that shot will be the difference maker for whether he becomes an all star or a transcendent talent

SL won't make or break Ben, but it would be nice to actually see him in a game situation instead of just goofing around in practice.

I actually think playing in SL could be bad for Simmons if he is currently reworking his jump shot. It is hard not to revert to your old form when you are thrown into real game action before you have nailed down your new mechanics and reinforced with enough reps for muscle memory.

I don't think the style of play in the summer league accurately simulates NBA basketball. The only thing it's really good for is building chemistry with other main roster players. Like what Ben did with T.J., Richaun and Timo last year.

Ben will get more out of an unofficial camp with Klutch playing with, against and being around actual high level NBA players.

Are people still hoping Simmons will become a good shooter come opening night. It is going to take years to remodel a shot completely. No use getting upset over 5 seconds of instagram highlights where he has 1 turnaround fadeaway jumper and suddenly breaking that down.

His shot isn't THAT broken. He is definitely not Lonzo Ball broken. There are people in the league today that have much worse shooting actions than Simmons but can still hit at a respectable clip. You can't turn everyone into looking like Klay Thompson.

I think for Simmons it's more about repetition than anything else and in Summer League last year the longer it went the more comfortable he seemed to be shooting it. For me his biggest problem is the type of shot I see him taking... he likes taking fade aways almost all the time. Now unless you are Michael Jordan that is one of the hardest shots to make consistently. There is no need for him to be leaning back and taking fadeaway jumpers on 50% of his attempts. He is 6ft 10 and can shoot over most people without the need to do that. I hope out of everything the shooting coaches are doing with him it's that behaviour they are trying to take out of his game.

In the highlights I've seen of him at practice where he is shooting 3's or jumpers from a spot with the team in a drill he actually looks pretty smooth and makes them a lot more consistently than a lot of his sixers teammates were making them.

This shows you it can be done. Now Wall still isn't that good shooting but he can hit jump shot shot at a decent clip. Hopefully Simmons can improve like Wall did.

Yup and the guy still averages 23.1 ppg this year as a 6'4 point guard with below average 3 point shot.

Wall only hit 49 of his 202 shots from 3pt land in his first 3 seasons in the NBA... only 24% His 4th season it jumped to 35% and hasn't been below 30% since.

Simmons hasn't even stepped out onto a court yet and taken 3 in the NBA and people are losing their mind over the shooting form of a 6ft 10 guy.

Either Simmons is going to surprise us with his much improved shooting and is hiding it from his die hard supporters or he is hiding it from himself haha

Predicting how good one's development with their shooting is tough. Even LBJ's % is quite erratic. Everyone's saying how he has lost his shootinh touch during the regular season. I think at one point he was shooting 50% from the FT line during the first round. Now he looks like a better shooter than Curry.

Overall, I'm at the camp where I'd rather not put too much hope on a bad shooter becoming a good shooter. Standard of good shooting nowadays is also crazy that a bad shooter needs some sort of a miracle to be a good shooter (40 3pt%& 90FT%?)

Brett wants 35mins a game out of Simmons - so no SL means he is just saving his legs.

If you wanna also find someone more his size.

DeMarcus Cousins made 1 of 6 threes in college and was 11/69 (15.9%) in his first five nba seasons. 70/210(33.3%) last year and 131/364 (36%) this year.

Even just on the Sixers already. Embiid was 1/5 at Kansas and obviously worked on his shot rehabbing the last two years. He was 36.7% shooting threes this year.

Have you actually watched SL? I want to see BS also but thinking SL will give him actual NBA experience is a stretch.

Simmons is good to go now, right? I don't get why he isn't playing SL.

Yes he's good to go. Summons thinks he's too good to play in Summer League and doesn't want to play. He hasn't said that but that's what I believe.
