It wasn't a sweep, but they got 2 out of 3 against the Pirates this time. Now for a trip to Boston.

After a less than ideal road trip ends with losing a series to the Red Sox it is back to Chicago for a 4 game series with the Phillies. Sitting at the top of the division on May 1st despite some clear struggles early isn't a reason to complain. They are not playing like the best team in baseball at this point, but as long as they stay on top of the division they just have to put it all together for the postseason.

Took 3 out of 4 from the Phillies. Brett Anderson is every bit as terrible as I expected. A weekend series against the Yankees and with Anderson pitching one of the game I'm just hopeful they can get two out of three.

Anderson lived up to expectations today. Five runs and couldn't make it out of the first. There has to be a better option in the organization. Maybe move Montgomery to the rotation?

i know they are kicking around the idea of a 6 man rotation, but i wonder when they will decide to implement it - once you go to that you are kind of stuck with it for a while

but our starters are struggling enough maybe its worth a shot

What a terrible weekend! Swept by the Yankees. Out of first place. Can a trip to Coors get things headed back in the right direction?

Losing a series to Colorado is bad. Getting shut out in Coors is worse. They need to get it together this weekend. For the love all that is good and holy sweep the cardinals.

I've been traveling so only catching box scores. I do think Candelario is a likely trade piece though.

Nice debut by Butler and Happ makes his debut so should be interesting to watch.

Tbh, this cubs team has been meddling all season long.
Im not a total pessimist, just tryna call it like i see it because im not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

The cubs were a couple bounces away from taking the yankees series. So i'll give then the benefit of the doubt on that one.

We lose to colorado 2 games to 1. Colorado is a good team and had unfortunate circumstances regarding weather. Not ideal play from our cubbies but nothing to push the panic button over.

Currently the cubs are losing 3-1 to the cards in game 2 of their series.
What stands out is a underwhelming lineup.
Im seeing hoiberg-esque rotations from maddon. Ive been unimpressed by the lineups he has put forward all season.
There has been no consistency and everyday there is some flip flop in active starters.

Idk if joe maddon is doing a victory tour with this group but the lineup in todays game looks hardly capable of beating a bad team much less taking a capable team like the cards.
I know lester is starting and you think you can afford to rest players like lester will just get you the win, but the losses are piling up.

i think some kind of championship hangover was expected, we hoped since there is so much talent that might even some of it out but then it really is a very young team (of hitters anyway)

hopefully this is something they can work through and there is a spark at some point that gets everyone going, otherwise we could be mired in this rut of mediocre play the entire year

he could be over rotating people through in order to find someone with a spark to give the team a jolt

or he's overdoing it with the success he had with it last year, at some point i'd think you'd want some consistency and let things settle in. i don't remember if he was moving people around to this extent last year at this point, maybe not since the team was off to such a great start that everyone was on fire

Yesterday's lineup was weak due to some injuries. Addy, Bryant and Heyward are all banged up. Schwarber has been terrible. The rotation has a 4.42 ERA. They'll get it together because there is too much talent on the roster not to, but this slow start is painful after last season. This is a really young team and I'm sure some of them thought they could just show up and go through the motions and win the division again. They are seeing how wrong that thought process was. They are 2.5 games back and .500 and could be 1.5 games back if they win today. They could easily have a 5+ game lead in the division by the all-star break as performances return to their normal levels.
