What would you give up for a trade up?
If we don't win the lottery we are at 12 and most likely a PG won't be there #12 value. What are you wiling to give just to move up to 7 new york 8 kings 9 Dallas range and draft Dennis Smith PG or whoever you feel is best?
A) Next year's First
B) Reggie Jackson plus filler in return
C) Stanley or king Henry
D) Morris OR Harris OR Leuer
E) Some bigger trade involving Andre
I would say next years 1st or Morris. Then build back Reggie value and trade for shooter/scorer mid season
Lets say Morris and 12 is traded to trade up to NY for 7, Morris Will be a free agent soon enough and we have Harris and Stanley
Season Start Line up
RG / Ish / Dennis
KCP / Reggie
Harris / Stanley
Leuer / Henry
Andre / Boban

Morris and 12 wouldn't move you up that far. I'm guessing next years 1st, 12 and a young guy like Johnson or Ellenson would be what it would it would take.

I think it's funny how many people propose giving up future 1st to move up in the draft. You just know that 3 yrs ago they were willing to trade this current years pick in the same type of deal.
Anyway, the only option I think that would move us up significantly is E, but I wouldn't do that unless Porzingis had burned his bridges in NY and we could get him.

For what it's worth all three of those guys will be free agents in the same summer. Johnson restricted and both Harris and Morris unrestricted.
As for the topic I think it would definitely take the 2018 1st round pick to move up. And that would be okay with me if it's for one of the point guards. Adding more beyond that would make me pause though. Detroit needs to start stockpiling assets not trade them away. Moving up with the 2018 first would hurt but getting a new point guard in would be tremendous, especially with the five guys at the top of this class.

Draft bpa. Countless times there's a Kawhi Leonard or Paul George that's a better pick where we're at compared to moving up. We gotta just get lucky for once!
Jimmy Butler and isaiah Thomas for God sakes. Look where they went. I say just get lucky and draft bpa.
I do agree one of the 3 SF'S should get dealt with one of Ellenson or Leuer to upgrade to an all star forward

Next years pick is probably the only asset we have with positive trade value.

Re: What would you give up for a trade up?
I think Reggie has negative value. Leuer probably does as well. I wouldn't want to deal next years 1st, we could just as easily be back to picking top 8 as we could make a playoff push. I'd like to let Stanley / Tobias play out a little bit before moving them (especially just as ammo to move up a bit) and I only want to move Drummond if he's treated like a "franchise" player in value. Anything else I don't really care.
I think Minnesota may be a nice trade partner with us, especially if they fall to 7-8 on lotto night. Thibs has grown pretty impatient and they don't really have an opening in their roster for another young player, he's stated an intention to bring in more vets.
Mook / Baynes (if he can be dealt) / 12 for Pekovic's bad deal / pick 6-8 makes some sense. That deal might not be cap legal with Pekovic included, but eating his salary would certainly be a positive for them. Even without him, Mook might be enough incentive for them to move back a few spots.
Mook certainly has positive value, has a VERY team friendly deal and gives them flexibility as a player who can back up Towns or Wiggins or play with the two of them in small ball lineups.
Dallas might be a team that would consider some win now talent to slide back a few spots. The Kings / Magic / Knicks are simply unpredictable, so who knows. If Philly gets the Lakers pick at 4-5, they may be willing to deal their other pick and slide back for future value or win now pieces.
I really want one of Monk / Smith / Ntilinka with a minor move up, but there are 7 teams in front of us who could take a young guard, not counting Boston who'll likely take Fultz if they get pick #1.

For what it's worth Baynes can't be traded. I've seen that proposed a few times in different places, so for future reference:

Note that players with ending contracts (including players whose contracts might end due to an option or ETO) cannot be traded after the trade deadline (players whose contracts are not ending can be traded after the last day of the team's season and before July 1 -- see question numbers 100 and 103).

Good question, but it seems to cost more than its worth to move up. It might make more sense if we want to "free up" a position, such as SF, so we trade Mook to get Stanley some more run. One other problem, if you're targeting a PG, all 3 of the teams at 7-8-9 all need their PGs of the future as well. So they wouldn't be likely to deal.
I'd be much more interested in moving up to #4 and get Philly's pick. So #12, next year's unprotected first, Mook, and RJ? That's probably not enough, but maybe that could start the discussion.
Also, with Philly, I wonder how they feel about Embid vs Drummond? Embid was awesome when he played last year, but will he stay healthy enough to be on the floor every game? Maybe put in a Drummond for Embid into the swap as well and see if that gets it done.

Yeah, I didn't think he could.

I actually wouldn't mind trading back. Pickup a additional asset and then just draft Frank Jackson or something.

If someone took on Reggies contract or Drummond I would give up our first.

Re: What would you give up for a trade up?
Our best course of action is probably to hope Reggie can rehab his value. He was never 100% physically last season and wounded pride might have spurned him to play more selfish than usual. Hopefully he approaches training camp with a better mindset.
It would cost too much to move him now and drafting a PG with him still on the roster would just make matters worse. Unfortunately we're probably stuck for a little while.

We don't really have the assets to move up in the draft unless we give them future draft picks, which is a very bad idea.

every player we have isn't worth a top5 pick in this draft, so...

If cant get the PG we are after in the draft, perhaps it is better to trade down.. Perhaps trade down with Utah and have them throw in young point guard Dante Exum.

Doubt they'd give him away to move to 12 but they are facing cap issues
