Who has the better top 5 achievement between these fighters:

Post#1 » by Headliner » Mon May 15, 2017 3:43 pm

Of course opinions on each fighters top 5 could vary, but I just went by what I thought. If you took a glance at these fighters collection of heads, how would you rank them? Who's is the most impressive, and who's is the least. All of the names are for fighters considered as the greatest fighter of their weight class, and are the names thrown about in GOAT conversations.

GSP:
1. Matt Hughes X 2
2. Condit
3. Nick Diaz
4. Hendricks
5. Koscheck X 2

Silva:
1. Belfort
2. Dan Henderson
3. Maia
4. Griffin
5. Sonnen X2

Jones:
1. Daniel Cormier
2. Gustaffson
3. Teixeira
4. Machida
5. Evans

Cormier:
1. Rumble X 2
2. Barnett
3. Gustaffson
4. Frank Mir
5. Roy Nelson

Mouse:
1. Henry Cejudo
2. Dodson X 2
3. Benavidez X 2
4. Creepy
5. Horiguchi

Fedor:
1. Big Nog X 2
2. Cro Cop
3.Hunt
4. T. Silvia
5. Arlosvki

Aldo:

1. Frankie Edgar X 2
2. Uriah Fabar
3. Kenny Florian
4. Chad MendesX2
5. Mike Brown

I'll think about your question, but Mouse beat Benavidez twice as well.

The real answer to this question is....

Jake Shields:

1) Dan Henderson
2) Tyron Woodley
3) Demian Maia
4) Robbie Lawler
5) Carlos Condit

It's tough to say, though I think Mighty Mouse doesn't get enough enough credit because it being a new division (no past champions for him to beat) - Benavidez, Dodson, and Cejudo are top level guys.

And I give Fedor more credit for doing it at heavyweight, even throwing out the cans, he beat like 10 legit heavies in a row (with a no contest in there).

It is a really hard question.

To me, Cormier is the best fighter in the defeated list. So that gives Bones a big bonus for his top 5.

His honorable mention list is cray too: Daley, Kampmann, Mayhem, Okami, Akiyama, Pyle

Also he beat the grappling GOAT and bellator's highest paid fighter this weekend as well: DILLON DANIS!

Not saying you're wrong necessarily, but after Cormier (Hughes is comparable IMO) OTOH, He beat Gus (who's hasn't beaten a top guy but is known for his good losses) and Teixeira, before that he fought 4 middleweights.

I think Rampage should arguably be on Bones list.

Why do I feel so underwhelmed by all of these lists?

If we're talking about the perception of guys as the fights happened, I think the lists would look different. If it's just all time rankings, maybe some of the guys took too much of a hit because they lost to the greats that they no longer seem impressive.

Rampage over Gus, in either case though. Better all-time, and Gus was seen as a very weak challenger.

Fitch and Alves were two of the biggest feathers in GSP's cap, but they both went downhill fast.

Also GSP beat Jake Shields, who as Redd established, is the winner of this game.

If I look at it the other way and say who's is the least impressive, I think I might even lean Silva. TRT Hendo and Belfort were no joke, but they also have been defeated a lot. What a hard game though lol

Great thread.

I'd go with Jones after swapping out one of his top 5 for TRT Vitor (to this day one of the scariest fighters I've ever seen).

Also Thales Leites and ... Brian Stann?

Of course Silva was over the hill and Henderson was a senior citizen when they fought.

I'm a Bones fan, but I think style sort of does matter. Every champion or former champion he faced was supposed to bring things to the table he never saw, or wasn't comfortable, and he beat them up, tossed them around, beat them up with their own strength, and then broke them mentally and physically.

Gusstafson basically made a name from being the only guy this didn't happen to.

He needs Cain though imo, but that's a strong list.
