2017 WizBoard Bench Upgrade Thread

Post#1 » by AFM » Tue May 16, 2017 3:04 am

Think this is an important thread. We all know Zach and Ellie Leonsis browse these forums.
Maybe CCJ, Nate, and Dat can give the Leonsis some tips on how to fix our bench.
Nate: assuming Otto is resigned for a max, what do we have left?

If Otto is resigned for the max, and we also retain McClellan, we'll have about $3-4M in luxtax room.

Jennings didn't earn a ticket back on the team even for the vet min, nice guy and all but you didn't do ****. A 6 point run against the corpse of Jose Calderon doesn't count.

Moving Gortat to the bench is the single most logical move, team needs more defense overall and bench needs points.

Phukk. So, let's imagine Mac is good enough to play back up PG/SG. What can we get for 4M?

I'm really curious what Mahinmi looks like after a healthy summer. If he can move Gortat to the bench and play amazing D like he did in Indiana that will be huge.

Thats my big question. Im hoping a summer of Wall and Mahinmi working the PnR make him a lot better on that end.

The bench was an absolute disaster. The obvious best case scenario is upgrading the starting rotation and being able to bring one of the starters off the bench. Don't know if they would be down for that. I also hope that anything we do, doesn't include trading our 1st round draft pick for next year. We need young players. That is how you develop a brand and a style of play.

Simple.

1. Fire Ernie.

2. Hire this man:

It's hard to know what to do in the offseason. Our bench lineup next year is:

PG Sato
SG Mac
SF Oubre
PF Smith
C Mahinmi

Mahinmi is the only guy who is a pretty safe bet to be an above average bench player (assuming he is healthy). The other 4 may also be quite good if they have real good offseasons, or they could all be substantially less than satisfactory. It's hard to know what position to bolster with our limited free agent dollars. The only thing that's certain is that we don't need another center.

I was a huge Sato stan, but I actually think Mac might be better.

PS Nate-- McCellan changed his name to Mac legally.

Ideally, we trade Bojan and Mahinmi for Anthony Davis. That would solve a lot of roster problems.

George Hill is a free agent! We need 1 piece a great back up PG! We have no assets that anybody would want. If you want to be crazy than try sign and trade Otto and filler for Melo

Anyone know the code for green text?

Know you were being funny, but actual thought experiment:
What could we trade Bojan and Mahinmi for? Realistically?

I will ban you from this board if you make that suggestion again.

It's really hard to see Batum being traded for Ian and Bojan. Why would they do that?

If Grunfeld hadn't wasted the pick, I would suggest packaging Gortat, Oubre, and the first for DeMarcus Cousins. Might not have been enough...

Darren Collison for backup PG?

Satoransky has to get a shot and some kind of aggression... his size and defense would have helped in the postseason

Pray that after Durant wins his ring with Golden State, he will not re-up his player option and comes to DC for whatever we have left to pay him. Then we move Morris or Gortat to the bench. What? Not happening? ;-)
