With the 33rd and 35th picks, the Orlando Magic, select...

Post#1 » by drsd » Wed May 17, 2017 12:48 pm

Orlando already had the 35th pick, and now have the 33rd pick as well.

Interesting to see how those picks balance off of each other.

Both should be NBA-capable players. In this draft, one of these two might become starter quality over their NBA career.

At 33 I like Jordan Bell, if available, The guy is all energy and he will be an excellent locker-room presence. He just looks so much like a Bo Outlaw-type of player.

At 35, I like the best of: Jawun Evans, PJ Dozier, Edmond Sumner, and Jawun Evans. At 35, selecting the Magic's 3rd string PG is a value pick. All of these guys look NBA ready.

I think 33 should be a back up PG, Not sure if Evans or Dozier will be there, but would like them both. Would be fine with both picks Nemesis21 takes above. Will be interested in the names available after the pull out date.

making these picks with Magic taking DSJ at 6..
With the 33rd pick the Magic take Jordan Bell PF from Oregon.
With the 35th pick the Magic take Semi Ojeleye F from SMU.

that would be an absolute haul of players and would solve our F spots.

I expect 3 on the roster easily.. 35th pick,Garino and Georges Hunt are probably fighting for 1 spot, Green is gone, I expect CJ Watson to be cut and Rudez is RFA so he could easily walk/be cut.

Roster would pan out like

Rook #6
Rook #25
Rook #33
EP
AG
Fournier
Vuc
Biz
Ross
Mario
DJ
Zim
FA
35/Garino/MGH

Instead of this scenario playing out, I could see us using #33 and #35 to jump up a couple spots.

if you mean barely make the roster, be end of the bench guys 90% of the time, then yes, they will be NBA capable.

This is where Lloyd has been shown to excel. He found some gems in Chicago with those late picks, including Jimmy Butler. It's going to be very interesting to see who we take at that 25th, and the two 30s.

I'm very much in favor of taking Frank Mason with one of these picks as a change of pace guard to what Elf brings. This is assuming we don't draft a point guard at #6 of course.

Awesome, I think you are the second person on board with me on taking Mason. If they guy was 5 inches taller, he'd be a lotto pick.

same could be said for Jawun Evans another under 6'0" PG.. have a feeling whoever takes Evans/Mason will be thrilled. If Tatum falls to 6 I'd be thrilled to take him and then Mason/Evans early 2nd round.

But I think if you draft Evans, Fox, Monk, DSJ, Ntilikina, it would be to replace Payton. I'm fine with keeping Payton, I like Mason so much, because I think they would be a really good 1-2 punch at PG, and that Mason wouldn't need to replace Payton. Mason would bring the scoring and bulldog mentality off the bench that you don't see from Payton.

Id probably go with a total draft of Isaac at 6, Diallo at 25, mason at 33 and Bolden at 35.
Bolden can stay at Europe and develop or come over and be a stretch 4. I think Diallo has a good high ceiling because of his athleticism but he needs work.

I think right now on my mock on the Mock Draft board I have Orlando taking Isaac at 6, Diallo at 25, Hartenstein at 33, and Mason at 35. Great minds...

If Magic draft a PG he obviously is being brought in to compete with EP regardless if its Monk, Fox, Evans, DSJ, Mason III. This is a show me year for EP and if he gets out played by a rookie then he pretty much has set his value in FA. Magic can then try to resign but also not worry if a team over pays because they already have a solid PG on a rookie payscale who won the job.

Magic were desperate for solid backup PG minutes this year and EP would be a smooth transition with that. Heck with a Evans/DSJ type PG Biz could start while Vuc n EP could provide solid 6th 7th man minutes without a huge fall off in offensive firepower.

DSJ/Evans
Fournier
Ross
AG
Biz

6th EP
7th Vuc
8th 25th pick -> spot up minutes

That's kinda funny. Haven't even looked at your basketball mock. I think I prefer Bolden because he's a lot better shooter tho hartenstein might be okay but I think he needs to work on his shooting.

I like Hartenstein's upside to eventually be a center. But, Bolden would be fine as well.
