To piggyback on that, I have a feeling that DSJ might be the guy we look back on in this draft and say "why did we think Fultz/Ball was going to be better than this guy?"

His passes and penetration videos are just sick in the above video series.

3PAr: .364
FTr: .476
STL%: 3.1
AST%: 34.2

If you can find anyone in the top ten with something close to those 4 numbers, let me know.

Jeez, this paints his defense in a positive light. If he can play like the first half of this video consistently, he might be the best or second best player in this draft. Even when he's contesting shots and they are going in, that's fine to me. In the NBA, everyone makes shots. It's the players that force turnovers/deflections that make the biggest impact.

I might have been sleeping on DSJ a bit. He definitely has the numbers on offense to be worthy of top 3.

I could see him annihilating people in one on ones and moving up the board.

Honestly, I think judging defense via highlight can throw you more than the offensive end. I watched a decent amount of DSJ and he has like 2 plays a game where he is killing a dude on the defensive end and then he is a complete sieve the rest of the game. He just doesn't give a single **** on defense more often then not.

I can see him moving up the draft board because that kinda of athleticism in person has to be crazy to witness.

It must be disheartening to care for a few possessions and everyone else not care. There was one clip where he hounded the guy for about 15 uninterrupted seconds, then his man took a wild shot, and the other team got the offensive rebound and put it back up. I'd be pissed too.

And he's a better FT shooter than both, although I think that matters more when compared to Fultz. The only problem is he was in the bottom 15th percentile among defenders at his position (I don't remember the source).

The one issue I have with DSJ apart from his attitude is his ball-pounding ways but I agree he has every skill we could want if we're getting a PG and I definitely think he should be in the mix for us at three.

No doubt, his team was straight butt cheeks. He is really hard to evaluate and his choice of team did him no favors. Offensively he is dynamic but he basically played Westbrook ball in college.

I kind of put him and Malik in the same box when evaluating for the sixers. They are athletic freaks that do things I like but they are tiny and play no defense lol. Monk gives pretty good effort but just isn't good and DSJ gives effort like once and then says **** it.

If he's Dame Lillard, everyone will wish they didn't pass on him. If he's Reggie Jackson, they'll do a shoulder shrug.

dsj's athleticism has also been getting underrated by a lot of people for some reason

Ehhh. Speak for yourself. I've been saying for months Dennis Smith is more talented than Fultz. DSjs problem is he doesn't give consistent effort. If he gave consistent effort I'd take him over Fultz without a question.

For fans it is but for the team it shouldn't be...if our scouts are worth a damn they should be able to pick which of the remaining dudes at 3 are good or not. Now of course you can't forsee everything but you can't be out here drafting Bennetts and ****.

Agreed. He is def being slept on. He had a good season and that was coming off of a serious injury (which scares me a bit for US)

I can see Smith becoming a killer though. He seems to have that Lillard like dog in him.

His injury history alone would scare the Sixers off at 3, plus effort issues that speak to on court character issues for DSJ. If we had 5 and 10 and he was there at or near 10, that would be worth the risk.

Anyone else getting the early vibe that Josh Jackson is not a fave of the Philly decision makers, FO and BB??

Well, I'm not saying no one has been talking him up. I'm more saying that most are pinning him between 6-10 and they'll be shocked that someone like us, who need at PG, passed on him.

Agreed. However his stats look more like Lillard's best season than Jackson's best season. He also is a better passer than both of them and appears to be more athletic too.

Because everything Brown/Colagnelo have said is we need shooting/guards and the players at three who could be picked there that fit that bill are slight reaches. I know you are on the Jackson bandwagon but adding him forces minutes from the developing TLC and we already have Roco and Jackson's no shooter. Jackson is the consensus pick but he doesn't really fit, Fox the same. If we were picking at 9 - 6 it would actually be easier for us. FYI I don't mind the slight reach on Monk at three if we can play him at the one on defence when Simmons is on the floor, but I can understand why others don't want him there, I'm also happy with DSJ at three and I think Tatum fits us better than Jackson.

I think tryouts will be really important for us as we might, for example, get more clarity over Fox's/Jackson's shooting form. Yes its great we are at three and ahead of all but two teams in the draft but its really muddy water for us given our needs. BPA works a lot better in situations like the NFL with massive rosters or in situations where an NBA team has a complete dearth of talent - I'm quite on board with the 6ers drafting for fit at three even if they have Jackson as the third best player on their board (which I don't, but whatever).

So you woukd rather not pick 3rd and rather be picking from 6-9?

^ ^ the other thing with Tatum is that it means either he or Simmons will have a mismatch when they're both playing and obviously both are equipped to exploit those mismatches, so I'm OK with Tatum as well at pick three given his offensive/scoring/spacing ability.

lol, obviously I'm not saying that - it would just be easier for us to pick at 6 - 9, whoever we pick at three will likely either not fit or be a reach is all I'm saying.

Man, I just went down a DSJ binge. Alright, I'll say it: If we don't take Tatum, I want DSJ. I think Brett Brown can make a defender out of him. I'm not sure there is anyone with his total package, offensively, in this draft.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
