Help the Raptors get to the next Level WITH Lowry/Derozan/Ibaka

Post#1 » by Asif16 » Fri May 19, 2017 5:39 am

Masai Ujiri made rounds on the various radio outlets in T.O today and based on his comments it doesn't look like Masai has any plans to rebuild the Raptors (For now). A couple of key points he made:

-Says he wants to bring Lowry/Ibaka/Tucker back and have them go through a training camp together to build more chemistry.
-Seems to get a little bit ticked off when told he can't ever beat lebron
-Says he likes staying competitive (2-4 seed) but needs to find a way to get to next level and eventually take down lebron.

Lets focus on what HE said and not debate whether or not Masai is making the right decision. I dont want this thread going off rails on another subject.

So if he stays true to his comments....Lowry/Derozan/Ibaka/Tucker are surely to be on the roster.

That leaves the likes of Carrol/Val/Joseph/Powell/Patterson/Rookies/1st round pick. Is there anything that can be done with this to get to next level? I honetly dont know if its possible

Trade for Melo with Carroll, Valanciunas, and a future first? Then trade Cojo, Bebe, Powell (can't re-sign anyway) for a veteran playoff performer? Wade? Trade down for two picks and get lengthy shooters Semi and Robinson.

Ibaka/Poeltl/Bebe
Anthony/Siakim
Tucker/Semi/Bruno
DeRozan/Wade/Robinson
Lowry/Wright

Possible?

Valencuinas for Howard. (If Howard's value is so low)

Assuming he agrees to this, DeMarre Carroll + Corey Joseph for Carmelo Anthony.

Lowry-Derozan-Melo-Ibaka-Howard

Now this is a blast from the past but if Melo is switched on and wants to win, same goes for Howard who hasn't won a title ever, then they could compete.

Yeah i think the Melo trade is def realistic. A Carrol + Val + Wright + Bebe + 23rd for Melo and O'Quinn. With the way Melo's value has degraded, thats a lot their getting back.

Val for Howard is possible but the Melo trade is just awful for NY. Melo's value has dropped but not to that level. Carrol is basically a cap dump. Joseph would be the only significant piece going back.

I think any trade Melo will have to include Carrol + Val to go along with some other rookies and our Pick. But obviously, that would mean we cant get howard.

normal logic would dictate yes. But Phil seems committed to ditching Melo at any cost

Valinciunas and Joseph for Howard is what the Raps need to do. They need a greater presence in the pain and althought Dwight has lost a half a step, I think hes exactly what Raps need to move forward assuming they keep core.

Surely you're joking. Crowder's an excellent 3&D player on a terrific contract. Valanciunas, while a good player, is among the least valuable archetypes of player on the market right now (offense-first shaky-defense low-mobility center). There are 5 or 6 of those guy's who've been various degrees of available for a couple of years now, and they're all still with their teams.

I think Howard is a terrible add personally.

He wont get any touches in the "Demar and Lowry are gods" offense that Toronto sports game after game after game after game.

He isnt going to like setting screens, running end to end play after play and getting only 7 shots a game for his effort.

And on Paper it looks like Melo as the PF would work, with Ibaka being the center, but IMO that is a recipe for disaster as well, UNLESS, the NBA institutes a new 2 balls on the court at the same time restructure.
