The NBA is a show with a script
I realized as I was watching the Celtics vs Cavs game, Jaylen Brown got a bogus shooting foul and I was staring at this slick young man with a tight haircut going through his motions and just being in the spotlight for a good 20 seconds. That's when it struck me that the NBA is branding him through the refs, giving him exposure on the free throw line. D-Whistle-esque talent promoting.
Earlier in the game they called a 'rookie mistake' travel on him, something rarely ever called on superstars. It was the NBA subtly calling him out to work on his footwork. He is the face of the Celtics future and they want the Boston franchise to be relevant so he needs to up his game to all-star level.
Meanwhile the Cavaliers themselves got away with some serious hacking. Crowder got none of the calls he deserved during crucial momentum swing situations in the game. Players complain more than you think but replays don't show every shout of controversy or every reaction from the players. Only the the blatantly missed calls are pointed out for us as an audience to nod our heads to as Reggie Miller points out for us that "that is a foul".
The Cavs were gifted this gritty win down the stretch for having star-power and for the sake of the Cavs/Warriors clash. The league can't and won't have the Orlando/LA 2009 scenario all over again. Players realize what's going on but can't risk to call out their employer.
When debating fixing in the NBA, the case of Tim Donahue has to be brought up for the simple fact that it is the NBA's only connection to rigging that has legal backing. The poor guy was caught gambling, self-operatingly rigging games to his own benefit. He and only he, individually decided on guidelines to deploy for his own wishes... Right?

It's true. The Return to Cleveland has truly turned LeBron James' legacy (in order for which he almost certainly has to be on PED's to be the incredible monster human being and maintaining the physique that he has today. When there's no strict regulation on such a big stage it's almost irrational not to use every tool in your favour) legacy into one of the greatest, climbing mount Jordan. What a time to be alive. But you can't overlook the unlikely set of circumstances that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been involved in in order to create this perfect D-Rose esque narrative. I'm sure the only regret the NBA script writers have is the Cavs picking Bennett, for the Cavaliers could have been in GOAT team sweepstakes with the current Warriors.

The Lakers knew they would keep their draft pick. Motive: transitioning the Cavs/Warriors era into yet another Celtics/LA Lakers rivalry.

The likeliness of Lebron being on PEDs is about the same as Durant throwing up after every meal to keep himself skinny.

Every series would go six or seven if this were the case. The league would make as much money as possible.

We all admit it's rigged: "Superstar calls" being a thing = rigged. Now if they'll do that, how much further will they go...? You think they have to be overt with refs, or do refs easily catch the drift when certain refs get favorable schedules?

"The NBA is rigged!" he says after least dramatic playoffs in recent memory.
Been saying this here for 10 years now: If you think it's scripted, why do you waste your time watching?

Some people are simply basketball fans and follow the NBA regardless. just because you watch it doesn't mean you have to completely agree with every aspect of how the product is ran and managed. Frankly, hardcore NBA apologists shouldn't be the only crowd that gets a say in how the league should improve and progress further.
I wonder if your also excited about the upcoming jersey advertisement patches

after all... the NBA can do no wrong as I'm sure your well aware.

If you invest time, money and attention into something that you honestly believe is actively manipulated to produce specific results, you're stupid.
As for jersey ads, I'm shocked they haven't done it sooner. Pro sports are all about making money, and they've been leaving millions on the table for years. Doesn't mean I like it -- I don't -- but I'm also a realist.

NBA is a business. If you want parity and pure basketball maybe watch FIBA or some foreign league.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

What an ignorant statement. I love overseas and international basketball but you must not if you think that foreign domestic leagues have parity. The NBA has more.
Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

I love the entertainment I get to watch, it's amazing to see the intensity levels of Kyrie Irving and LeBron James playing the highest level of basketball in the world.
As Lala870 pointed out to you already, that doesn't mean I have to like or agree with every aspect of the product.
For example, as was also mentioned previously by Guest202: Superstar-calls are an actual instrument of in-game rigging that exist because they help the NBA market and highlight the stars of their brand. I think there is room for improvement and integrity there.

Re: The NBA is a show with a script
All professional sports are rigged to a certain degree ... big teams/names win = $$$
Just look at these recent penalties for Barcelona
Refs were working really hard for them.
Get over it ... nothing new, so is NBA.
Folks will tell you, it's crazy, you are nuts. Corruption in sports are hidden in plain sight with excuses of poor officiating, bad luck, etc.
Every once in awhile they get unfolded and came into light.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Italian_football_scandal
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_doping_cases_in_cycling
Just google up boxing scandals ... phew fun times.
etc
I don't think NBA is an exception. It's just they are able to keep a close lid on it so far.
If you wanted to enjoy sports in anyway, do yourself a favor and tune this stuffs out of your mind. If you couldn't, just stop watching sports all together.

Hopefully none of mine!
Part of the bad perception is with the refs......certain ones at that. Certain guys who constantly have issues in their games. But because they have seniority, they end up doing very important games.
We all see the last 2 minute reports, and we all see how badly they make certain calls in games. But really there isn't any reprimand that the fans see or hear about. Until they make some changes with these habitual bad refs, then of course it's easier to believe there are shenanigans.
And we all have our favorite bad refs. For me Tony Brothers and Scott Foster scare the ess out of me when doing the games.
