Watching DSJ it seems like he has that elite scoring gene along with explosiveness and athleticism.. Kind of torn between him and Jackson now.

I love watching the top prospects compete against one another. Here is Dennis Smith Jr attacking Isaac, driving the basketball out of the triple threat, laying the ball up through his chest at 1:40.

DSJ seems to have all the makings to be a Lillard-like scoring PG.
My only drawback on not LOVING Smith is the ACL. Id want a crystal clear and clean medical review on him.
Outside of that, I really like him and think he has a chance to be the best player in the draft. Let him defend point guards, coach him up with taking 3 pointers and let him attack in a scoring role in a Kyrie/Wade like way.

I've seen/heard comparisons of Dennis Smith and Baron Davis. Would it be off base to say Smith could be like Westbrook?

current Westbrook is more athletic, faster, stronger, quicker, has a longer wingspan. But then again, I don't remember Westbrook being the freak athlete he is now when he played at ucla.
i believe dsj will get quicker and faster, his body needs time to fully heal from that acl injury.

The Smith/Steve Francis comparison is perfect. No need to find others.

Frank Jackson had ankle surgery. Will be out til at least July. If that pushes him down, I'd take him with one of our 2nd rounders.

Not necessarily at 3, but if we moved down, I really don't hate Malik Monk on this team.

Hypothetically, if it was Fox or Smith who would you guys lean towards. Personally, I think it has to be Smith.

Feels like Smith is the better fit but wouldn't surprise me if Fox's interview prowess bridges the gap. If you listen to Fox and the enthusiasm he shows it'll be hard for coaches to not buy in.

Let's hope it's the Boston Celtics medical staff giving him a clean bill of health and not the 76ers medical staff.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Re: 2016-2017 College Basketball / '17 NBA Draft Thread III
I'd be fine with either. Smith is the better "fit" on paper...but dem knees doe. Fox has a great attitude and fits the defense we like to play...but dat jumpshot doe. Both have flaws and could bust...but eh...its not that type of draft sadly with can't miss dudes..so why not.
Real talk..barring Bryan going full stupid and panic trading up or down and losing assets in the process (especially if trading up with Ainge is the goal; he will get Billy Kang'd), I am fine with all of the options at 3 (Jackson/Tatum/Fox/DSJ..and to a much lesser extent Monk).
feels nice as of right now.

Smith feels destined to be a Sixer with his knees and our medical staff. It's kismet.
That said, don't really trust a random reporter. I think they'll consider both of them at 3, but doubt they are the frontrunners.

I'd choose Smith over Fox. His offensive ability is off the charts. That mixed with his athleticism and a pretty good form on his shot makes me think he might be the best offensive player in this draft. I think his defense is correctable. The only concern is his knee, and I don't think we'll be privy to any additional information on that.

Eh, it is just BC doing his job. At this point Philly should be saying they love all the players. Hopefully it will make somebody like Phoenix, Orlando or NY to trade up if they have fallen in love with somebody and are scared that Philly might take that player.

I think passing on Josh Jackson would be a mistake, but if they pass on him, Smith is the player I'd be the least disappointed in taking. He's been 3 or 4 on my board most of the year.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

I'd be fine with Smith at 3. His issues on defense seem to be more effort than ability related and maybe I'm being overly optimistic but this where I think JoJo is important. Having the star of the team being so defense focused makes me think he will ride Smith to give his all on defense.
