Dre Kirkpatrick - DB - Bengals
Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick is out 2-3 weeks with a broken hand.
He claims to have gotten hurt in a "freak accident." Kirkpatrick will be back for training camp. While he is sidelined at OTAs, Kirkpatrick will wear a soft cast and participate as a mentor to Cincy's younger corners. Kirkpatrick signed a five-year, $52.5 million contract this offseason.

That was a really interesting story. I could really see the situation up there implode if and when the team starts losing. When teams are constantly winning, things are ok but put together a losing season or two and there might be trouble with some of the malcontents up there.

Re: Around the NFL Thread
They're unlikely to give Sherman another extension, at least not a high salary with more than say 2 years.
Truth is, they've invested in the front 7, not just with contracts (Bennett got an extension and he's 30 or 31) but high recent draft picks.
That's probably what the trade talk was about, to get out from under that contract or knowing that they don't want to give him a big extension and him probably being open to it if he thought he could get a big extension on another team.

I liked him when he came out. Not as much as I did with Janoris, Kirkpatrick, Kevin Johnson, Ramsey, Lattimore, etc. but I liked him quite a bit. Not sure why he hasn't been able to elevate his game?

ESPN signs Chip Kelly as college football studio analyst

FOX's loss if that job and the ESPN job would be comparing apples to apples IMO.

Brandon Jacobs: Jim Harbaugh didn’t know what he was doing
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/05/26/brandon-jacobs-jim-harbaugh-didnt-know-what-he-was-doing/
Jacobs said Harbaugh didn’t have much of a grasp of the Xs and Os of coaching and that the assistants deserved more of the credit.
Non-bold part I can't really speak to for sure but it would not surprise me back then if there was SOME element of truth to that in some respects.
Bold part I really agree with when it comes to the Greg Roman aspect and some of the other assistants to a lesser degree.
I really respect Roman as a football mind and in the moment never really felt like he got as much love from not-in-the-know people as he may have deserved because so much of it was heaped onto Harbaugh. Obviously credit is such a hard thing to divvy up in the coaching world because so much of it is about the connection and relationship two or more coaches have but what I'm getting at is I don't think how good Roman was or may have been for Harbaugh specifically at those times was ever really talked about to the degree it probably should've been IMO. Not that one couldn't argue what else it might have looked like had Harbaugh tied himself early on to someone other than Roman, too.

Yeah but was it Harbaugh or the assistants who didn't play Jacobs?

Re: Around the NFL Thread
And the "That guy knew nothing, man" line is one of those emotional, throw-away garbage statements. I don't really think he means it like that but like most people these days you overstate something or you purposely go real hard with a statement to try and make your overall argument pop out and look stronger. I put next to nothing in that statement...much like a lot of what Jacobs has said over the years.
