Why does OKC think you don't need to start your best 5?

Starting the best players at each position is a basic fundamental that goes back to the beginning of sports and it's more important in basketball because there are only 5 players. The reason it's important is because you want to get off to a good start at the beginning of the game (it sets the tone for the game), the beginning of the 2nd half and you want your 5 best at the end of the game in clutch time if the game is in question and you need those 5 to have the most time on the court so they can develop the most chemistry together. For some reason the Thunder thinks that you don't need to do so though and it has cost the franchise at least 1 and probably more championships. Anybody who knows anything about the NBA will readily tell you that Kendrick Perkins cost OKC the championship against the Heat and he never should have even played a minute in that series because he was useless yet Brooks kept starting him and playing him well over 20 minutes per game. If Brooks had started Collison and Harden instead of Perkins and Thabo they would have won several championships and the team would have stayed together. Collison was a much better overall player than Perkins and of course Harden as it turns out is an MVP caliber guy who as it turns out probably should have started at PG which would have moved Russ to his natural position as a 2. This year they started Sabonis who clearly had no business whatsoever out there and of course Roberson who is nothing more than a role player who should have been coming off the bench to play maybe 12-14 minutes max. Had they started Kanter (who is an infinitely better overall player than Sabonis) and Abrines (or even Huestis) they would easily have won 6-8 more games and probably wouldn't have even played Houston in the first round. The idiocy of starting a guy like Sabonis all year who then doesn't even play in the postseason is beyond baffling to me. It's one of the most simple things in sports but they just don't seem to get it. I understand that Presti came from the Spurs and he wanted to follow their little blueprint for success (he wanted Harden to be like Ginobli coming off the bench) but it's clear that it won't work here and has been a complete failure.

Except it isn't? There are probably 20 teams that give the lie to this just today. More if you look at history.

Have you ever even heard of a 6th man?

Don't try to educate it. They lack the mental function to understand that the Spurs won multiple championships not starting their 5 best players.

Anyone who knows anything about the NBA knows the spurs "little blueprint" has been a little bit successful. Also, when you have a sixth man like Ginobli or Harden they do finish the game on the floor.

Oh and someone posted similar comments in the power chat today when talking with Jenny Carlson. It's right after the "Roberson is the worst offensive player ever and shouldn't be on the court" post. She stated that the comments by the poster were wrong. What is the definition of insanity again?

Somebody should inform golden state that they're doing it wrong.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Also, what an odd thing to say after this season, when we did start our five best.

OKC had 3 MVP level players and Serge Ibaka and using the "spurs blueprint" it resulted in 0 championships. The idiocy of bringing an MVP level player like Harden off the bench behind somebody like Thabo Sefolosha is beyond belief for all those years and it looks even more foolish now that we are seeing what he's capable of. Starting Kendrick Perkins was asinine as well and anybody that is remotely knowledgeable about the NBA will readily tell you he cost OKC a championship against Miami and he was a net negative game in and game out with his pathetic offense and was a step slow after his knee surgery. Perkins never should have started a game for the Thunder, Nick Collison should have been the starter as he was a much better overall player.
