This x 1000. Likely top 4 pick again with Ayton, Bamba, Porter Jr and Doncic all being there. Trading the 2018 pick is folly.

I'm interested in Tyson Chandler or Andre Drummond as the bigs to target. What are the chances we can get one of them in a trade?

Chandler + asset for Bradley and Crowder wouldn't be a bad deal if we are signing hayward.

Drummond I would imagine you need to include one or both of Brown / Brooklyn 18 and I wouldn't make that deal.

Argh, will Drummond still be that expensive? I agree with the pass then. I also wouldn't make the AB + Crowder for Chandler + Asset trade depending on the asset that will come back in return.

What about Bradley for Whiteside if we miss on Hayward. Whiteside is better than most FAs and we would be able to keep KO.

IT Fultz Brown Horford Whiteside
Rosier Smart Crowder yabs KO Zizic

I'd think it takes much more than Bradley to get Whiteside. He's actually an attractive asset, unlike Drummond.

Drummond is available for a reason, he's good but limited on offense, and bad on defense (although in theory could be good if he got his act together), and was a problem in the locker room this year.

Of course, he's a pretty good scorer because of his finishing ability, but if it comes at the expense of spacing and team offense... that's a problem. There's a reason the Pistons' fairly talented team missed the playoffs.

Basically the goal is to keep building upwards and hitting on the draft picks, and eventually trade for Anthony Davis. In other words, KG trade 2.0, where the asset pool is rich enough that there is still plenty in the cupboard after the trade.

So in that light might as well go ahead and sign Hayward, he should be a strongly positive asset over the life of his deal. He will probably be opting out after three years anyways, so in the off-chance Davis hits free agency, that space will be open at the right time.

Where else are they getting a top-5 player? They aren't grabbing any of LeBron, Kawhi, Durant, Curry or Harden. Davis should be in that top-5 tier though by the time he's in his prime.

You literally just described Whiteside, as well.

I'd take Drummond over Whiteside. All things being equal, he is 23 while Whiteside is 27.

Trade Bradley or Crowder + other assets for Minny 7th pick and draft Isaac. Good way to free up cap space and net another asset.

Randle wouldn't start for Boston in that hypothetical, he'd come off the bench. Or is step 2 tanking?

Drummond has been **** for more than a year now. Noone is paying 2 top 5 picks for a guy who's owed 100+ mils over the next 4 years and has looked awful.
Good assessment:

Whiteside would probably cost us picks more than 1. I suspeect even MIA asking for BKN pick, which will never happen, but it will take a lot more than just Avery to get Whiteside. Dude averages 17/14/2 :o and he has developed a little mid range J(short one but still). Anyhow it's nice to dream I just don't think he's our type of big. We're looking to stretch the floor as much as possible.

Agreed that's why he'll stay on Detroit. He's not being traded for Crowder and a second.

I suspect Miami asking for Brown or Brooklyn 18 and I don't want to do that haha. I really hope we invest in a traditional center but I fear we won't. Lopez, Gortat and Thompson did waaaaay too much damage to us this year.
