we all did. the turner draft made most of us smarter in evaluating prospects to some degree

God the Turner draft. 90% of us (self included) shat the bed on that one. I also liked Dunn a good bit. At least I hated Jah from day 1.

Hated the Okafor pick, the minute they called his name. Felt like a punch to the stomach. And surprisingly he's much worse than I anticipated. I thought we were setting ourselves up for 7+ years of Brook Lopez like Mediocrity. Okafor is basically what I thought his floor was, which is young Eddie Curry.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

I vividly remember it ruining my night. Instead of watching every second of the draft as I normally do I just kinda angrily flicked channels back and forth. I seriously disliked him as a prospect but I never thought he was going to be as bad, and frankly disruptive to the rebuild, as he has been.

I'd gloat about being "right" on Jah (although I may have tried to talk myself into it after it happened) but I can't since Mario and Mudiay are both trending towards bust status too.

That was me when the Lakers **** us out of Russell. I'm glad he has been a middling snitch or else this draft might have done some permanent damage to the old noggin.

Lol. So if that was you when the Lakers picked Russell then this must have been you when we picked Okafor.

I had accepted the fact that Okafor was the pick prior to the draft. I think the Russell pick leaked out mad early that year.

I had time to go through all the stages of grief.

That draft taught me to never get attached to any prospect because fate likes to **** with you.

I let Cousins' character issues sour me on him. Last time I make that mistake for someone that talented, unless the dude is suspected of murder or rape or something ultra serious.

Turner makes me a little queasy about Jackson. On one hand I'm like nah it's not even comparable because Jackson is way more athletic, talented, better defender, more potential, etc. On the other hand I'm like Turner was very productive, had great handles in college and we all hoped he'd improve his jumper and he never did. So I worry about that with Jackson, even with his athleticism. But then I'm like well Doug Collins didn't develop anyone and Brett Brown has proven to be good at that, so I should be more comfortable with Jackson just for that reason alone.

But ultimately I'll never be 100% comfortable with a wing/guard who can't shoot. I've stated many times, shooting is my favorite skill in the sport, and having guys who can't shoot is a personal pet peeve of mine. It's like having slap hitters in baseball or guys who only score off deflections in hockey, or possession WRs with no breakaway ability in football. It's just such a tease. You hope and hope and hope they eventually take it to another level, but deep down you're thinking "yeah, prob not gonna happen."

I just looked at some threads from back then and you and I both were enamored with Hezonja. He's still young, but man, we missed on him.

I liked to blame Skiles for all of his woes..but he looked like ass the games we played them. All of that cocky swag he had is gone now too.

What has Cousins done to prove he was worth the pick? Sacramento traded him and the pelicans are a long way from the playoffs. His character issues were worth passing.

You could get the best of both prospects though:
In the first three games of his college career, he was whistled for 13 fouls. He fouled out of three games and battled foul trouble in countless others. Quick whistles limited his effectiveness in Kansas's NCAA Tournament loss to Oregon.

An article in the Kansas City Star dated Jan. 6 discussed Jackson's penchant for picking up technical fouls — frustration manifesting itself in ill-advised ways. That's also a euphemistic way of describing an incident outside a bar where Jackson repeatedly kicked a car belonging to a member of Kansas's women's basketball team. One could also describe that as a crime.

Jackson also hit a parked car and fled the scene without telling anybody about it for weeks.

Same. I think of the Cousins/turner draft all the time because 1) i weighted character too much 2) as a UK fan, i went against the home team. Now i'm an irrational homer in the draft process. Malik Monk is me watching one frankie vision highlight mix away from shooting back up my draft board.

Despite his flaws he's still way better than Turner or Favors, and I wouldn't use the Kings as an example of someone being worthy of being traded. This is the same franchise who traded a pick swap, a 2019 first, and Stauskas for a bag of air.

Another guy I'd love to give a summer league invite to. 3.2% + STL% all four years at VCU. Was better at finishing at the rim this year. Shot a high 3PAr and FTr. On the shorter side, but incredibly quick.

Watching Jackson is so weird. Sometimes he looks really smooth and natural and sometimes he moves really weird. Like sometimes when he moves he looks like Nerlens Noel. Maybe he's just one of those guys that looks awkward at times.

Josh Jackson moves like the healthy Chandler Parsons. The same exact body at the same age with the same level of explosion, only Chandler was underrated for his level of athleticism while Josh Jackson's athleticism is overrated. They both also couldn't shoot free throws in college and turned the ball over a great deal. Chandler Parsons and Steven Jackson are the two guys most similar to Josh Jackson physically. JJ will not be the next Kawhi Leonard, he doesn't have the body to get that done.

This. Plus Turner couldn't slash, and get to the basket. Sure he was smart, had a good handle, and was skilled offensively, but he couldn't play off the ball, whereas Jackson is going to be a terror off the ball.
