He can guard all 5 positions on court and is energetic all over the place. I consider him a rich man Justin Anderson as he's better lateral quickness and stronger vertical quickness. He only takes shot when he's opened. He's surely a contributor to me. Monk may or may not succeed at next level. He'd give us flexibility in rotation. He can be a modern PF with 7-6 wingspan at only 6-8 tall. He averages 2 blocks and 2 steals per 40 minutes. That's hard to be neglected. If we trade down for cap relief, he's my pick.
I'd have no interest in a 6'8" PF. Based on the latest article I read it seems that if the Mavs cannot land the PG they want they will likely pick Markkanen. They view obtaining a stretch 4 right behind PG on their list of needs this off season.
He's a 7-6 wingspan to make it up. It's not bad to have another Draymond on roster. He's not just a PF, but he can also guard C, SF, SG and PG. That's what make him special. His slow release is a concern. He can only be a fourth or fifth option. But he's the elite defender potential and nba-ready body and lateral quickness to start with. His defense is even better than Wes. If we trade Wes, we need a replacement at 2. Barnes can't guard opponent best player the way we wanted to. We have to address it. I have Andre Roberson or OG Anunoby high on this role. I wonder why we'd pick Markkanen after we see how Ryan Anderson, Kevin Love and Lamarcus Aldright failed all playoff long. From the highlights, Markkanen does not have the foot step of Dirk or Porzingis. That makes him more likely be one of the big failure on boated contract like those 3 guys mentioned. All 3 guys can shoot. But all of them disappeared on the playoff floor for one reason. To win a championship, you'd better have a 4 that can contribute on both end from 3-5 position. I see Markkanen's lack of explosiveness and lateral quickness a serious problem to that regard.
