You could find some middle ground. Perhaps randomize the top 8 and the bottom 8 and match them up like that.
I'm fine going full random if that is the consensus.

One suggestion was to keep the top 8 as is and randomize the bottom 8.

Definitely still let those you quoted vote if you are choosing this route.
I don't really see the point in doing it in house when we already chose the seeding. It seems redundant.
