I really wonder if adding CP3 & Melo next to Kawhi & that squad can win a title or at least close to one.

Get rid of LMA somehow & that's a team perennially in the Confeence Finals.

Let's keep it 100 Kawhi damn near carried that Spurs team, add in two players who will immensely take the pressure off him offensively and the possibilities are endless.

Definitely a bonafide contender IMO. Big improvement over this year's Spurs, which would have given GS a tough series with Kawhi healthy.

Melo with Pop as coach and none of the distractions. CP3 as his PG. Kawhi as Batman. Could give him a better chance at a ring than going to Cleveland, even out west.

The super friends teaming up is imo the only way he gets presented with somewhere he wants to go. And Phil is going to want to get something useful for him. Plus he wants to "look good"

This all adds up to Denver. The assists and cap space to do serious roster maneuvering. Something to start with. And a good story for Carmelo

The main issue with moving melo is the teams who want him and he wants have so little to offer in return

They are all stacked in win now mode and have older players and limited picks

However both Portland and Detroit have come out dangling picks in this years draft. This is the way to make things happen.

Ny trades melo to the cavs
Ny gets Stanley Johnson, Reggie Jackson and miles Leonard plus portlands 20th and detroits 15

Cavs get melo
They send out shump, Frye and RJ as well as cash to det and a future 1st rounder to Detroit. Like in 2022 or something. Top 8 protected let's say.

Detroit sends Reggie Jackson, Stanley Johnson and the 15 th

They get Frye and Shump and Cle's pick

Portland send Leonard and 20 to ny and they get RJ and a trade exception

Portland sheds major contract
Detroit adds vets that fit their style and remove Jackson, who they hate, and Johnson who they are disappointed in
Clev lands melo for next to nothing. A lineup of kyrie, Lebron, melo, love and Thompson is their version of the warriors east

And NY sheds melo, takes on contract in Jackson and Leonard
Ny adds a young talent in Johnson who should do well in the triangle, a guard in Jackson who can actually play and who Phil has been rumored to want.
And of course we have the 8, 15 and 20 picks in the draft

I'd argue that we can either rebuild the roster with those picks or package two of them together to move up and target either Josh Jackson or Tatum from Phili or phx

Thoughts?

reggie jackson to knicks = yuck town

why would detroit give up all of that for frye, shumpert, and a cleveland pick in the future?
three well documented reasons

1- they don't like Jackson and don't feel any love for Johnson
2 - they want to add vets and van gundy type players
3 - they get out from under jacksons contract

Another CP3 destination could be CHI. Then Melo goes there for whatever coming back.

CP3 Wade Butler Melo RoLo. Could be potent.

For a team to take on CP3 and Melo, they need about $55m in cap space, or equivalent in contracts going out. How many teams fit that bill?

At least the Clippers can sign CP3 without making space, and have the crap contracts to send out for Melo. That's the only realistic place where they can team up.

Spurs make sense --- they deal LMA to Minny for Tyus Jones or something
Parker retires
Danny Green, Murray to NY for Melo

Is CP3 really gonna leave 53 Million dollars on the table just to join the Spurs though? Even by going there he's not guaranteed to even make the Finals because of the Warriors.

That's a lot of money to walk away from

We're talking about $53 Million

Cavs don't need Melo. They need to get younger.

I don't think Clippers should give him five year full max. They will regret it.

I agree, but it is LA and it is Doc Rivers. If they lose CP3 it's basically time for them to rebuild (which they should have actually started to do a couple years ago when they peaked) but it still feels like they are not ready to do that.

The $$$ doesn't work. They have to send out $30m to bring in Melo because of his trade kicker. Then they'd have to clear another $25m for Paul to sign.

The Spurs don't operate like Dolan. The only way they'd bring in Melo is if he agrees to a buyout with the Knicks, the agrees to a microscopic deal with the Spurs.

What is this based on...? He's done absolutely nothing since entering the league...in either the D-League OR in the NBA.

I can't believe people are pretending that melo might go to SA

Just stop

It's LA, Clev, or in a crazy seitcharoo Wash, Boston or Houston

He's only accepting a trade to a contender
And to be honest that's only 5-6 teams

SA is clearly one of them but he totally doesn't fit their identity or roster

Unless they want to play LA at center which only makes his softness inside worse

No
SA is not an option
Because SA isn't interested

For that matter they wouldn't be into George or Haywood any number of good players

He had a D-League Finals game for the ages for one.
And he's freakishly long with a good J.

Reminds me of Demarr Johnson in his Bearcat days before the accident.

I dunno man, we need to unearth a wing.
We are all so fixated on PG and rightfully so but we need that 6'7'-6'9" wing with star upside. I think the top three wings (if you count Isaac there even though he's more of a four man) could be special. But chances are we won't get any of them. We need to really find a guy.
