If he wants to stay with a team that's looking to rebuild, that is his choice. But speaks volumes about his lack of desire to compete on the NBA level. Looks like he just wants to collect a paycheck while he works on his other side businesses.
this is closer to what the conversation really should be about... why would he even want to stay?
it sucks on this team, he doesn't fit in future, he can continue to collect his paycheck elsewhere... he wants to experience winning... i think, at least.
why stay?
He'll stay because of his son.
And you know what, that's way more important than winning a ring. His desire to be a great father is what he should be judged upon. At the end of the day it's just basketball.

Then he will be a stud again, his reputation will be resuscitated and Knicks 'fans' will lament the inability of the team to get baskets on demand.
The man who scored 63 effortlessly and without the help of the refs at msg will have to play elsewhere to get his standing ovation at msg when he returns
I think all you're going to get from Melo anymore are flashes of the brilliance he's shown in the past. Sort of like what we saw sporadically through Jan/Feb (IIRC on the months) this last season where he got really hot offensively. Too many miles on him and it's obvious when you see how hard he struggles to finish in the paint. Not everyone is a genetic freak like Lebron.
He can definitely provide value to a contending team that's built correctly. He'll need others to cover his rapidly diminishing defensive efforts and with a smaller role on offense he may be able to become somewhat more consistent than what we saw last season. However that's exactly why I wouldn't lament anything. That's obviously not going to happen any time soon here so I'd be happy for him if he was able to get one last hurrah and resurrect a bit of his former prestige on a team that meshes with his career's timetable.

lol yeah, you're right!
I'm sorry rotten apple, but...

none of this matters. he will still be here next year, and everything will likely be the same as it was previously.

Only one offer? I did not know that. What was it? Melo to the Clips for Jamal, Rivers and two first round picks in 2057 and 2058?
The NTC? Yes, I know. That doesn't mean that teams can come to us with offers to try and get him to change his mind.
So, you haven't sold me.
I don't think it was the Clippers.
I'm not trying to sell you on anything. Teams rarely "knock down" doors players in general.
If Melo had/has no interest in leaving then you aren't going to change his mind.
If he's interested in a team, I'm pretty sure that team is interested in him.
Stop talking out of your ass.
Since when do you have inside sauces? How do you know teams "rarely come knocking down doors for a player in general?"
You talking about NBA 2k or somethin?
When did I claim I had sources?

Teams don't beg to acquire players, it's not a common occurrence.

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
There may be a few places that Melo may be willing to go to. The problem is that those teams if they are viewing themselves as contenders aren't going to give up vital core pieces just to bring Melo in.
Also have to take into account, the fit. Boston probably is the only team that Melo would go to a be the top scoring option, a lot of defense around and solid coaching. Doubt Boston would part with valuable pieces though for Melo.
Knicks wisely shouldn't just accept garbage back either. And to match over 30 mil in salary is way to complicated, and hard to fuse into a team. A team's 2nd or third best player shouldn't be making near 30 mil.
Melo is also on a decline which I don't see a reverse gear even if traded to a contender. Sure to start there should be some invigoration, but I can't see that as season long lasting.

Teams that feel they are a missing piece from competing for a conference finals, that who. And the word is not "beg." C'mon you know that's not how these GMs roll. They "inquire."

That's fine. Just take him! Bring back some expiring contracts and a couple draft picks and we're good. Addition by subtraction.

Knocking down the door is so much more than inquiring.
Also factor in salary, which means teams have to give up either enough in complimentary players to not hurt their depth or give up a core member of the team which either creates a new hole while plugging one which will show a team down trying to pick up momentum.
That's why this off-season made so much more sense for a trade. Even Melo said that if he did move he wants to have a plan in place, he's just not going to up and leave like he did before.
Don't worry Wingo he'll be gone soon.

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
Hopefully Hornacek or his new coach manages his minutes better next year.
With the decrease in back to Backs and 4 in 5 nights he should be more impactful and with less pressure to carry that load we'll probably see a more consistent Melo.
It's not complicated.
