turner promotes ball movement. he finds the open guy, he gets in the lane. he rebounds. yeah he is a below average player and doesnt shoot threes but he is still twice the player crabbe is.
crabbe is REALLY awful.
I really have to disagree here Prok. Turner to me is a complete ball stopper and rock pounder. He does the exact opposite of promoting movement. He dominates the ball and that's how he finds the open man. He must have the ball in his hands AT ALL TIMES to maintain any type of production, yet he's not even close to good enough for that type of usage and style of game to ever have anything other than a huge negative impact and flow kill for everyone on the floor with him and he's inefficient in doing so to boot and I say this even with him presumed the 6xth man.
Turner is the type of player I NEVER want on my team, AT LITERALLY ANY COST... I mean I wouldn't want him on vet min, he completely retards any young player development of his teammates and destroys the flow of the game and impact of any vets with him.
Yuck, yuck, yuck!
And I say this as someone who LOVED E.T. when he was at the Ohio State and thought he was going to be a Brandon Roy Lite. He is not though, he's a failure at this level.
Marks needs to get literally like 3 1sts to take on that contract, including a mandatory 15th overall, a 2018 pick with only top 8 protection at worst and either a 2020 1st with reasonable protection, or also the 18th.
I was in absolute shock when Portland signed him to that contract, both monetarily and because he was THE EXACT LAST THING their squad needed in style of player.
Idk Pork does have a point, Atkinson's system is predicated on having players who can all dribble, pass, and shoot
Turner can dribble and pass
Crabbe can shoot
They're both flawed players, but given the context of not having talent, the Nets have to consider the long term implications.
At best, Crabbe is competition for Harris who has a similar skill set. Harris is arguably on par with Crabbe's production already.
At best, Turner is a combo guard who can mentor Whitehead. He is generally seen as a positive locker room presence on the Celtics.
The only precedent that is similar to Crabbe's situation is Harrison Barnes getting paid a large contact to play for Dallas. Mixed results for Barnes but he's seen a significant uptick in production. So far Crabbe hasn't lived up to expectations.
Turners situation is similar to Trevor Booker's last summer. Booker's presence has largely benefited the Nets.
So the Nets can either pay Crabbe & hope he improves (he's getting paid more than Klay Thompson so there will need to be significant improvement for him to perform to expectations) otherwise he becomes an untradable albatross. Or, pay Turner to play a veteran role with the roster.
Neither of these options are perfect, but when you consider that taking on Turner might come with a higher draft pick than a deal coupled with Crabbe, it's not hard to see why Turner makes more sense for the Nets.
Would you rather place all your eggs in Crabbe's improvement or Turner being a productive vet + a chance to move up in the draft?
