The rumor may have been smoke, screens and mirrors to keep the other teams off balance, but I will say this - I think Fultz, Ball or Fox would be great choices and in fact a few people have said they think Fox would be a better choice
I'm hoping that the Lakers aren't going into this draft with the mindset that they already got Paul George coming next year so they don't need to draft a wing player. It's shocking to me that there isn't much noise coming out of Lakers for Josh Jackson. The only workouts Lakers have scheduled so far for the #2 pick has been pgs : Zo, Fox dsj. Josh Jackson falling to 3 kind of shows how deep this draft is and how much teams value pgs now a days.
The Josh Jackson Wiggins comparisons are extremely fair imo. Having an explosive/athletic player like Wiggins is exactly who the Lakers need. JJ is that and more. He is a much better player than Wiggins was coming out of college. In fact, JJ statistically is far more superior than Wiggins. The knock on Wiggins coming out was if his shooting would go up and if he had the mental toughness to be the alpha star. One thing I personally love about JJ is his mental grit/toughness.
I found the below comparison between JJ and Wiggins stats from college that I found interesting. JJ beats Wiggins on almost every category and Wiggins was chosen number 1 in a draft class that was argued to be one of the deepest since Bron/Melo/Wade's class. (This class will probably pass wiggins)
With that said, I don't see why Lakers could afford passing on JJ. We need a number one scoring star. Imagine having JJ and Ingram on the wings at 2/3? We would be set for 15 years.
You just don't find that top echelon athleticism with the overall skillsets and promising offensive ability (38 prct 3pt shooting) very often. Tall elite wing players is what wins championships and what defines a promising young core or not.
JJ for the win!
