I've never seen Korkmaz play a minute, but if he is as good a shooter as people say then all we really need from him is to hit the 3 at a high clip and hopefully not be a horrible defender.

Pure upside from my standpoint. We don't have a lot invested in him.

Great draft by Colangelo getting TLC and Korkmaz in the late 1st rd. The other guy would have been given a parade by now.

To be fair, Colangelo did say he relied on Sixers scouting to get TLC, so it wasn't like it was a personal pick of his; but this is a great sign for us going forward into this draft, especially given we have 4 second round picks. Hoping the recent outing of our advanced analytics guy doesn't hurt our drafting - but I suspect most of the work has already been done anyway in terms of scouting.

That's always the case. People love to praise and blame so it's always about the GM and his genius or idiocy, but really it's a team of pros (some from the team, many many more at large) who break prospects down into profiles and then lets the chips fall. The GM officially has the final say but I would bet that 90%+ of draft decisions are made by committee.

I thought it was 2m last year and supposed to be less this year.

At 2m, Sixers can refuse to pay any of it and he will have a tough time coming over. At 800k or something more reasonable he could have told the Sixers he was coming and they had a lot less control.

I'm not convinced I prefer him start NBA acclimating or build up his body and delay the NBA contract.

Or Pat McCaw.

And crappy rookie season metrics aside, Isaiah Whitehead could be a problem in this league as a 2-way, power combo guard.

If the endgame for Korkmaz is basically Allen Crabbe, I'm never going to like the pick.

I don't understand your love for Whitehead. He's decently long and maybe he's just running bad from 3, but he had a horrendous AST/TO both last year and in college, and he's terrible at finishing at the rim. He's not particularly young either.
jonjames is a signature bet welcher.

Curious what are people's serious expectations from someone like Korkmaz. Role player? Starter? All star potential?

I could see him being a Marco Bellinelli type. Key shooter off the bench on a good team some day.

I have no expectations for him really. I have hopes that he can play 20 minutes a night in the league shooting the 3 at a high percentage, but I consider him house money at this point.

I think that BC has already accomplished what he needed to accomplish with those two mid twenties picks in that Luwawu looks like a good player. If Korkmaz completely busts I still think we did pretty well with those picks.

Afraid of his defense. Demoted and still couldn't take advantage. Still young though. I think BC wants him to play in Summer League so he can get destroyed and take defense more serious when he goes back.

Trade chip. Sacramento. Bereft of small forwards. Would be a great complement to DeAaron Fox and Buddy Hield.

Considering the Enes Kanter-Erdogan situation, I would imagine Korkmaz is highly motivated to get out of Turkey right now.

No reason to bring him in, our roster won't have the space to fit him. Stay in Europe for a few more years

There's a good reason to bring him in. See how he compares to our current roster. If he looks horrible it will show he's a few years away and he can see how much work he needs to do to get playing time.

1) Do you mean 'demoted' as in playing for Banvit instead of Efes? That's not a demotion at all--they both play in the same league and Banvit was actually really good this year. It's more like if the Hawks 'loaned' us someone like Kent Bazemore since they didn't need him to play and wanted to save on his contract money.
2) The Erdogan situation is really bad, but to be clear Kanter is only in trouble because he spoke out aggressively against Erdogan. Dude's awful and it's horrifying that a president can wield that sort of authoritarian power, but Korkmaz isn't in any sort of danger or anything. Erdogan's not a mad man or an ideological extremist, he's just a typical cheating strong man who wants to stay in power and crush the opposition parties.
