Re: The Positive Pistons Thread
Being humble, i.e. exhibiting humility, is directly related to ego. Egotistical people don't exhibit humility. Thus my statement--ego has nothing to do with prognosticating the Pistons future. I think it looks pretty bleak and I didn't start a thread hollering "What are you all so positive about?!? They're screwed!!!" So I'm not butthurt about a damn thing. Just disinterested.

Re: The Positive Pistons Thread
I am positive... positive that I will probably not be that interested in watching games until we get management/ownership that aren't afraid to rebuild from the ground up.
I watched more Minny, Philly, Milwaukee games this season than I did Detroit games... by a pretty wide margin. Hmm, now that I think about it I think I only made it through one complete Pistons game all season. The style of play is just too pedestrian for me right now to spend my time on.

this. unless this summer brings something good or a fresh start, I'm not paying euros (dollars) for the League Pass.

Re: The Positive Pistons Thread
1 positive I saw from SVG is at the end of the year when he said he needed a defensive power forward.
- it showed me he's not completely clueless. That's the biggest need on this team because Drummond is an offensive minded player.
- it took a lot of courage for him to say that when you consider that he has TB, ISO Morris, Jon Leuer, and he just drafted Henry Ellenson. It gives me hope that he's not married to our glut/logjam of power forwards, and that he's willing to move on from mistakes
- when the first draft talk from the Pistons came out that they really like Zach Collins, a defensive PF, that confirmed that their line of thinking and that's a positive
- the fact that they've been linked to Donovan Mitchell another defensive minded player give me hope that they are making defense a priority
- sVGs Pistons Facebook ad where the first thing he says is I want our identity to be defense. This makes me happy if he will do it with his contracts not just his mouth
- I hope that if Zach is gone, they will give a long look at OG Anunoby, who is the next Kawhi type player ( and who is the only player that slowed down GSW this year). If we can get a solid plus defender in this draft that has a high efG I would be very positive about this teams ability to get out of the East when Lebron gets older

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Disinterested? Well, obviously.

I'm not saying you're "all butthurt," but rather expressing my surprise that you used the expression in responding to my post. Mostly because all I've really done is encourage people not to be too down as things often work out differently than you might anticipate. I get that worrying too much about a sports board is silly.
Able people generally have strong egos, but aren't necessarily egotistical or arrogant. My statement that ego doesn't enter into validity is likely wrong. The best opinions to read are those that likely originate with competent people who have a strong and confident sense of self. Folks may be as pessimistic or down as they feel the need. There are certainly reasons a person might feel that way. Still, the coming season will include the unexpected and maybe some surprises. Maybe some of this might even be good?
Yeah, I know, "stop cheering me up."

Yes, maybe some good and maybe some not good. Point being either opinion isn't right, wrong, or worthy of criticism. Anyone who can't handle their opinion being debated shouldn't post it. That being said, "You're wrong" isn't debate. "I disagree because A, B and C" is debate.

Look at all the high picks that were just competing in the finals. While those superstars (less LeBron) were coming into the league, our team was "rebuilding on the fly" chasing that elusive 8th seed. Now, those teams developed great talent (which attracted more talent), and the Pistons are still spinning their wheels in mud, exactly where we've been since 2008.

I joined the boards back in 06 and many of my posts at that time were about cashing in all the assets we had while they were still valuable (yeah, kind of like Hinkie style but with much better pieces to play/start with). While not a very popular opinion, I was of the belief that our window had passed with the changing rules and the departure of Larry Brown. I still sometimes wonder how things would look today if we were willing/able to take that route. Alas with the team looking to eventually get a new owner, the safest route possible was the option they went with.

To the real Michiganers/Detroiters (or whatever you guys are called haha) in here: In what way does the move downtown make you more or less likely to watch some Pistons games next season?
What is the area downtown like? Some stuff going on down there, nice to hang out?

I was actually shocked how nice it's gotten down there. Definitely on the rise as they have been rebuilding a lot down there.

That's good to hear. I'm from Europe so I don't really know what it's like of course, but since I'm a Pistons/Tigers fan for more than 15 years now, you also kind of follow news about the city/Michigan too. I guess the city still has a long recovery ahead, but it's nice to hear these little comeback tales for sure.

Best news I've heard about the Pistons in over a year.
Stanley Johnson is the future of the Pistons. If he doesn't take over the team there's no Piston DNA in this squad.
Him skipping the Drew League to work on his body and his skill is HUGE not only for him but for the team.
Him getting out of SVGs doghouse gives me hope for this season that by the end of the season we'll have a competent starting small forward.
I always say if you don't have a high iq coach, you need a high iq pass first pg.
if you don't have a high iq pass first pg, you need a high iq pass first small forward.
Last seasons we saw that work out because the 2nd unit did better than the first unit, until Ish Smith (pass first pg) was in the first unit.
SJ being a starter is my hope for this season
