What PG should we acquire via Trade?

Post#1 » by T-Cat » Wed Jun 7, 2017 10:48 am

If we move on from Elfrid Payton this summer and don't select a starting PG in the draft, I think the team might look to acquire a veteran to fill the position via trade! (Considering it's kinda difficult to land good FA's to Orlando)

Who are some of our likely choices:

Ricky Rubio, Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic, Reggie Jackson and Kemba Walker.

My favorite target would be Rubio because he's fits our offensive style the best with his transition play and is more of a vocal leader this team needs!

CBS Sports mentioned we go after him before the trade deadline:

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/report-wolves-trying-to-trade-ricky-rubio-before-deadline-7-teams-that-make-sense/?a4KTx

I wonder if T.Ross and CJ Watson for Rubio might work?

I want our SL to look like this next season:

C-D.Howard
PF-L.Markkanen
SF-A.Gordon
SG-M.Hezonja
PG-R.Rubio

Gordon can play PF on offense and guard SF on defense, while Lauri and Mario roam the wing position on offense (to create space) and Howard rolling to the rim with the space our shooters give him! It's like the offense SVG used to run in Orlando but this time with guys having the ability to play in transition at a greater pace!

Rubio is no different than Payton, except he plays better defense. If we are trading for a vet, go for Eric Bledsoe. Dragic and Walker wont be available from their teams and I dont want Jackson. and that lineup hits the lottery again next season.

Eric Bledsoe. Rubio really isn't much upgrade over Payton.

Steph Curry

The best option you provided, would be Bledsoe.

So you want to replace one PG with suspect shooting with another?

Id love Bledsoe here. Not sure what it would take to get him though.

I would take Bledsoe or Dragic. Rubio is kind of a lateral move and Jackson may not return to form. There's no way Walker is available to us. Though Bledsoe may be very much available if the Suns select Lonzo. It would be nice to have a PG with a consistent shooting ability.

And about your SL... where does Dwight Howard come from? I saw you snuck him in there. I'm not saying I'm against the return (he was only good here and I'll always have a soft spot for him now that the anger has subsided) of the prodigal son, but can you explain how he'll be acquired? I'm pretty sure he signed a 3 year deal with ATL.

I also see you have Gordon as the 3... I'm pretty sure we were all watching last season. He's a 4. The experiment blew up in our face.

And lastly, Hezonja at 2. I'm all for throwing him in the pool to teach him how to swim. He's not going to improve unless he plays. But what is being done with Evan? Like him or not, he is a better player than Mario in almost every facet. There's no way he comes off the bench for Hezonja.

So my guess is we're trading Vuc and Evan to ATL for Dwight?

And you have us drafting Markennen at 6? I'm not sure many would consider him the BPA at 6. Especially when Isaac, Smith Jr, Monk, and even Tatum might be there.

IMO, the Magic should not be looking to acquire a PG via trade, especially if the PG is older. The Magic are nowhere close to competing right now, so going out and acquiring a veteran PG, especially at the cost that most of these guys would demand, doesn't make any sense to me.

With Payton being an RFA at the end of the 2018 season, the Magic must decide if they want to commit to keeping him long-term. If they decide that Payton is worth keeping, then they should offer him an extension but if not, then they should draft a PG and look to get whatever they can for Payton. Either way though, I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense to acquire a veteran PG when this team is so far away from being a serious contender.

Suns page seems to think Bledsoe alone is worth a top 10 pick....
we (Suns) got #13 for a disgruntled Markieff near deadline. Bled is at least worth a top 10 pick.

2) That's because the Wizards really needed him for a playoff push.

agreed, just because Washington was willing to give up their 1st rounder for a playoff push player doesn't mean other teams will for an aging PG with knee issues.

At times they had like 4th best record in the league, late first rounders can be nothing but salary weight on teams that have set all positions for present and future.
