The 2017 RealGM Soccer Board Draft - Discussion Thread

With yesterday’s Real Madrid victory over Juventus in the Champions League final, the 2016-17 European club season is now complete. In going with tradition, to keep the board active during the summer as we have done in past years, we are bringing back the RealGM Soccer Board Draft for 2017.

What will we do?
A snake style draft of soccer players with ideally at least 16 participants. Whoever picked first in round 1, will pick last in round two and first again in round 3. Round 1 will be determined by a randomized lottery. The draft will feature 13 rounds, 1 player in each of the first 11 rounds and 2 players in the 12th and 13th. Draft wisely because no trades are allowed and each person will be allotted a maximum of 12 hours to make a pick (given time differences as many of our board members live all across the world, this should be enough time to compensate for someone going on the clock right after they have gone to bed).

What happens when the draft is done?
We'll draw random groups and have judges vote which teams would probably advance. After the group stages are done, the winners will go into the knockout stage, again CL style.

Who is available to pick?
Every player around the world. Keep in mind that since winners will be determined by a majority judge vote, it might be helpful to select players who a majority of people are familiar with.

When will we start?
Once we have enough participants. I would encourage everyone to set up notifications in this thread (and in the pick thread when it is available) to make sure you don't miss the start of the draft or one of your picks.
