If the Magic move on from Payton during the Draft I've laid out some potential trade partners who could be looking for point guard this summer - there aren't that many. Feel free to add Teams to this list but I think all the other Teams are set at the PG position
Philadelphia: Not a good fit as they are looking for a PG who can shoot and play off of Simmons
New York: Looking for a PG who doesn't need the ball and can play in the triangle
Dallas: Mavs run a motion offense and doesn't suit a ball dominant guard (see Rajon Rondo)
Sacramento: Could be a good fit. Sacramento plays an uptempo offense and has had interest in since Payton since he was drafted. It would be interesting to know Scott Perry's view on Payton
New Orleans: Could be looking for a PG if Holiday leaves. Payton has long been rumored there due to his LA roots
Detroit: Pistons had interest in Payton around the deadline. Would fit SVG's pick and roll heavy offense
Chicago: Could be looking for a PG if Rondo leaves this summer. Rondo could also serve as a good mentor for Payton
Indiana: Could be looking for a PG if Teague leaves. Pacers also run a lot of pick and roll
San Antonio: Looking to groom a PG to take over from Parker eventually. Similar to Payton, Parker doesn't shoot well from the perimeter but has been successful in the spurs motion offense nonetheless
Milwaukee: Not a good fit as they need to add shooting at their PG position next to Deledova
Does De'Aaron Fox or DSJ have more star potential than Payton?

About triple doubles, if i'm counted correctly players had grand total of 122 triple doubles this year and 47 of them happened after allstar game . (if i missed total numbers for few , sorry, http://www.landofbasketball.com/year_by_year_stats/2016_2017_triple_doubles_rs.htm ,if somebody wants to count again go for it ) .So it was almost like Oprah, you get a triple double- and you get a triple dobuble. It's really interesting to see how 38% of all triple doubles happend after allstar game, where all teams had below 30 games to play, with over 50 in books. It kind a shows how much level of competition drops after allstar game. (or level of stat chasing goes up?)
I agree that Magic bench was terrible but let's see how starters did. I really didn't know how to evaluate them so i used +/- as data to see how they were doing. After allstar break Magic played 25 games i belive. I'll only go through Ls because notion here is that bench was killing starters ( again, i actually agree that bench sucked, but let's see how much influence starters had for losing ).
I'll start with first game after allstar break and go toward end of the season:
Blazers- all Magic starters +/- negative.
Knicks- same, all negative
Wizards 3 starters negative, Evan and Payton with+2 and +1, somehow ZImmerman had+7
Knicks- all starters positive, Jeff Green with freaking -21![]()
Hornets- as* whooping , all Magic players in big fat negative
Cavs- Fournier 0 as only not negative Magic starter
Kings- Gordon +2, Vučević +1 as only positives, Payton with 0
Warriors- all starters with - 17 or more. Another a** whooping.
Hornets- all starters positive, game wher it's clear that Magic lost because of their bench
Raptor- another game with all starters being negative
OKC- all starters negative
Celtics- Fournier -10 as worst starter, Meeks+12 as best player.
Nets- clear example of bench getting destroyed
Cavs- clear example of starters losing game in 5 min of third quater (Fournier-27 , Payton -24, Gordon -25)
Pacers -Fournier with + only not negative starter
Bulls -worst loss in team's history. 4 players with -20 or even more negative +/-
And that's it. There were games where it's clear that bench got runned out of the building ,but in most cases starters were ones who were whooped . Again, this is not most efffective way of evaluating things, i ignored wins because team at best won as much games after allstar game as they did before allstar game by winning percentage.
haha... don't neglect that westbrook was trying to break records n ish. lol
Good job digging through all of that stuff.... cuz that's impressive. I based it off of watching most if not all of these games. Game flow plays a huge part in the way players play... especially when you notice players forcing the issue to get a win and that alone will effect their plus or minuses as they scramble to make something happen. It was just a general feel from the game. shoot.... i would love a bench that will save our team and give us wins... but that was rarely the fact. and no .... i was never implying that our starting lineup was perfect and the sole problem was our bench. lol
for me.... payton played well when the ball was put in his hands last year.... then he regressed when that was not the case at the beginning of this year.... then after the all star break he shined again when he was given the opportunity to play in a style that is much more suited for him.
but... since you knock payton when he sucked (obviously)... but don't want to give him props when he shows signs of life.... what would you like to see done at that position?
Westbrook had 42 triple doubles, 27 of them after allstar break, 15 before.
I know that i kind a sound like a pure hater sometimes lol but to be honest i don't think that i ever posted anything negative about him when he was playing bad, i just didn't hoop on his bandwagon when he improved. Again, it's not like i want to cut him from roster or anything. I just don't think that he is good fit to Gordon or future starter on good team. Can i be wrong ? Sure, i thought that Lavine will suckand i suck at betting so it's not bad to bet against my opinon
hahahah.... ok..... i'll take that!
yeah... i'm not a bandwagoner.... i just feel that the best is still to come for those 2.
