Why would we make a promise without seeing him workout?

I thought the same thing. But the thing is, the whole thing is ridiculous. If Gambo doesn't know who it is and it could even be the Suns, who did he talk to, Jackson's reps? He's just full of BS. He just talks out of his ass half the time.

I think that reaction is more because the Lakers didn't drop out of the top 3. He obviously wants to play for the Lakers. Outside of that, I don't think he necessarily specifically doesn't want to be in Phoenix in relation to anywhere else.

Listened to Gambo today....around 5pm Phoenix time (Pacific), he said He called Philly and they wouldn't comment on the promise; the Suns haven't said anything. So, it could be either the Lakers, Philly or Phoenix. He said Jackson cancelled his workout with us.

I still believe Fultz Ball Jackson......from the rumors, we choose either Tatum or Isaac.

There was a somewhat puzzling report early Monday that the Los Angeles Lakers had “likely” promised Kansas freshman Josh Jackson they would draft him. With the No. 2 pick, the Lakers had very little incentive to promise any player anything because they could draft whoever they wanted other than whoever the Boston Celtics select first, which is why promises are usually given later than second overall.

Plus, and the information seemed to be coming from the Phoenix Suns or people around that team, but it was out there nonetheless.

Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders saw that report and attempted to shoot it down, tweeting that if Jackson has a “promise” that it wasn’t from the Lakers, who Kyler said “have been adamant they have promised nothing to anyone.”

So what does all this mean? Well for one, that no one really knows anything this time of year. Reporters get lied to, or someone says something they assume to be true but actually isn’t when talking to one, or their are different thoughts within different organizations.

The Lakers could have promised Jackson, Jackson’s camp could think they have a promise, the Suns or other teams could think there is a promise, or they could be attempting to blow smoke. There are almost literally endless possibilities as to where all these disparate reports are coming from, and why.

Long story short, the lead-up to the NBA Draft is crazy, and it’s only going to get crazier over the next week or so. Fasten your seat belts.

Kyler is terrible and Gambo probably has no idea. Where could he have gotten info Jackson has a promise? If it was from his camp it still could be BS or it could be from a team like Sac which wouldn't be that surprising but if they leaked it then it would be in hopes someone would take him earlier or trade up and take him earlier.

I just can't put much stock in Gambo saying this and Kyler talking about it. At all.

yea, I don't see us passing on Ball if he drops. All this smoke usually means the picks are going to go like we've expected Fultz/Ball/Jackson. I'm not buying any of this posturing stuff. Happens every year.

josh jackson cancelled workout with celtics today
High lottery pick Josh Jackson canceled today's workout with the Boston Celtics, source told me and @MarcJSpearsESPN.
Read on Twitter

Rumors about whether or not Kansas forward Josh Jackson has a promise from the Los Angeles Lakers to select him with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft ran rampant Monday.

First there was a report he "likely" had a promise from Los Angeles, and then a direct refutation of that report.

Clarity on the existence of Jackson's alleged promise doesn't seem likely to come any time soon, but it is worth noting that Jackson reportedly cancelled his workout with the Boston Celtics that was set for Monday, according to Jeff Goodman and Marc J. Spears of ESPN.

While this doesn't necessarily mean that Jackson has a promise from the Lakers, it doesn't exactly quell speculation on that front either. If the Lakers do draft him, he’ll be their second lottery pick out of their last four to cancel a workout in Boston, following in Julius Randle’s footsteps.

It's possible Jackson had a scheduling conflict, or that he had a promise from another team, or even that he just assumed the Celtics will do as expected and draft Markelle Fultz, but there seems to be enough smoke here that it can be safely assumed that something is going on.

I'm still all aboard the Issac train. I like Tatum as a prospect too, but Issac's upside is just too hard to pass up on.

The possibility of Ball dropping is intriguing, but even if the Lakers don't take him he'll go third. Orlando, Philly, and Sacramento are all great fits for him. Getting him at 4 would be a dream scenario but I'm pretty guarded about getting my hopes up.

This board has been crowing for a player like Issac for years. I'm surprised to check in and not see people drooling all over him. He's a great fit for this squad and he'd play real minutes next year. In this armchair GM's opinion - his tape looks better than Chriss or Bender's did.

Fox seems more Johnny Flynn than John Wall to me, and you guys have to be kidding me with the Zach Collins at 4 talk. We're bringing him in in case we can swing a pick for a trade in the late lottery. To be honest - I think Jarrett Allen is a better prospect.

I'm really loving the idea of an Issac/Bell or Bradley draft. There's just so much length available this year it seems like it would be a shame to not grab some of it. We could have the building blocks for a real front court on this team after the draft. Those kids could grow to be something under Papa Tyson and Tyrone Corbin's tutelage.

So much posturing and miss information gets thrown around right now its kind of funny. Most is crap but some is probably true. Last year there was a bunch of talk that the Celtics didn't like bender and i figured it was bs by ainge but it turned out true. There was also a bunch of talk about the suns liking chriss and that turned out true too.

As far as the gambo talk today the jackson thing is kind of nothing. Basically its saying Jackson will go top 4... well no ****. Thats not exactly a shocking development.

Fox cancelling his suns workout is the bigger news IMO.

Isaac is who I want if the top 3 are gone. He has the most upside arguably in the draft. I personally believe you can play him with Chriss and Bender individually, and sometimes alongside if any get enough muscle to play the 5.

His advanced numbers check out. It's clear as day IMO you need to take him before Tatum.

We go Ball.....without a doubt. He could be nice next to Booker....2 6'6 players in the backcourt and the spot light would be all over us. When a spurned Ball played against the Lakers....cmon

I hope you guys are ok with Isaac when he comes in and Benders his 1st season. Isnt strong enough to do anything but stand in the corner and hope his shot goes in.

We're building for 2020. I don't think the most ready guy is who we need or want in this draft.

Do you have a link for this? Because Gambo hasn't said anything about it on Twitter.

And nobody else has reported this either. I would assume that many people would be reporting it if it was true or even had legs.

Man..just watched Issac again. His defense is on point. Moves his feet very well. Decent handle too. I can see why some of the fellas here want him.

There is no chance we pass on Lonzo if he drops. I know its crazy but I would take Ball over Jackson if by some miracle they are both there. I could care less what trash comes out of his dad's mouth...Hes not the one playing for us... and everything I've seen with Lonzo he actually seems like a decent kid. 6'6' athletic pass first point guards do not happen very often. The guy lead the entire NCAA in assists last year and set the PAc12 record for freshman assists. Oh and he can also shoot, 55% from the field and over 41% from the 3 which is better than the "best shooter" in the draft, malik monk. Also don't underestimate Earl Watson pushing hard for Mcdonough to get him, the UCLA connection he preaches is real and he's already had a few interviews giving him high praise.

I'm sure you can listen to the show's podcast. It was 2-4 minutes past 5pm pacific when he said his workout was cancelled and Collins had a workout tomorrow.

Yeah, I was high on him and then low on him and then the more stuff I see, there just isn't much negative, and I've come around on him again. I mean he is obviously the best passer in the draft and maybe the best one to come out of the draft for years and then you look at stuff like his shooting

Could be very exciting.
