I just can't get down with spending our pick on Monk, a 6'3" SG who provides nothing other than a jumpshot. If his shot is off what else is he going to offer? Nothing consistently it seems.

He has more upside than DSJ and Monk in your opinion?

Yeah - but that's based on his athleticism being much farther from a finished product than theirs. I saw him look like a flash in transition so it's those quick movements that he's gotta improve - and I think a lot of that is just growing into his body. Being that long has got to hurt your handle at first, no (I wouldn't know - I'm a T-Rex.) But we're also seeing his body develop in a big way in just one year.

Now, maybe he never develops those things so by that same token he has a lower floor. How far he can get is above my pay grade but I see their improvement limited by how much they can refine their games and his by how far he can push that crazy frame.


So don't get me wrong - I'd figure both of those guys are better players now. But at this point - I'm feeling go for broke. You need superstars... and furthermore, with his learning curve a little behind theirs, he may simultaneously put us in a position to grab one next year while he develops.

y'all are way too focused on just scoring

let's not overlook that GS is also pretty damn good defensively...offense is important, but the Knicks will never become a champion if they keep neglecting defense

the Cavs made it this far because they have Lebron, their defense was not championship caliber and for all of the offense that Kyrie and Love have been praised for, without Lebron they would just be another average EC team

if the Knicks want to try and build a team full of high IQ, 2-way players that are unselfish then I have no problem with that

Phil has to think about which players has the best chance to be a future superstar with the 8th pick. This is why I'm choosing Smith and Monk over Frank.

Superstars win championships and MVPs in the NBA. This is the most important thing when it comes to NBA Players. There are a lot of players that fits your descriptions that are good role players. I think the Warriors have some of them. Now take away Curry and Durant and another team would be celebrating a championship. Focus on the players in the draft with the most potential.

Rumors about whether or not Kansas forward Josh Jackson has a promise from the Los Angeles Lakers to select him with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft ran rampant Monday.

First there was a report he "likely" had a promise from Los Angeles, and then a direct refutation of that report.

Clarity on the existence of Jackson's alleged promise doesn't seem likely to come any time soon, but it is worth noting that Jackson reportedly cancelled his workout with the Boston Celtics that was set for Monday, according to Jeff Goodman and Marc J. Spears of ESPN.

While this doesn't necessarily mean that Jackson has a promise from the Lakers, it doesn't exactly quell speculation on that front either. If the Lakers do draft him, he’ll be their second lottery pick out of their last four to cancel a workout in Boston, following in Julius Randle’s footsteps.

It's possible Jackson had a scheduling conflict, or that he had a promise from another team, or even that he just assumed the Celtics will do as expected and draft Markelle Fultz, but there seems to be enough smoke here that it can be safely assumed that something is going on.
